just picked up Genius Wars, the last book in Catherine Jinks Genius series

great reading for the kid in everyone

the series follows child prodigy Cadel Piggot, an orphan who may or may not be the child of an evil super genius, sort of Harry Potter meets Jason Bourne

I finished The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet. This is not a barn burner, but a book I was involved in, which is saying something as I get more dismissive over the years.

@ossobuco,
I got the 1000 autumns by the kindness of Pemerson - and I will send it along if an a2ker is interested.

BTW, I have been thinking of buying a Nook Color. Does anyone have any experience with eReaders and/or can recommend or not these devices? Which is best?

@hingehead,
I love her style of writing. Her story is a great and unorthodox love triangle story between her and Robert Mapplethorpe (who during the most of the book was struggling with his sexual identity) and the third love in the affair was art (poetry, drawing, and photography).

I have 75 pages left and she still hasn't got involved in the music industry. I'm going to try to finish the rest of the book tomorrow.

Got to figure out what will be my next book. For a book I basically was reading on my commute (oh and on my lunches and coffee breaks at work), it was a quick and easy read.

I just love my shiny new signature line.

Listen to her some more. "Land" is a double LP anthology that gives you a taste of the breadth of her songwriting.

Thanks Swimpy I'll peruse a few of her CDs from the library.

@ossobuco,
My present day Patti Smith signature fits my occasional fits of melancholy. I don't mind walking on rainy days especially if my socks stay dry and I have an umbrella. I'm hoping that it would make a pithy signature muse. That if I save enough money for a decent camera that I would use it as fitting and inspirational mantra for creating art while I walk home from work.

@tsarstepan,
I'm sorry, I just don't know Patti Smith but I sort of know you. She thinks some windows are photographical, give me a break..

Don't be Patti Smith, be yourself. You have a very tuned sensibility.

Signed,

a fan

@ossobuco,
I was under the impression she was being metaphorical....

But thanks for the words of encouragement. Very Happy

I just bought two books: Luka and the Fire of Life by Salman Rushdie, and Intelligence, A Novel of the CIA by Susan Hasler.

@BumbleBeeBoogie,
I have tried to read "Satanic Verses" at least 6 times and just can't get into it. I don't know why. It is laying around here someplace, is it time to try again?

@BillW,
I couldn't read it either Bill. It's worthless. Try Tristram Shandy. Slowly. The World Classics edition is best with introduction and notes by Ian Campbell Ross.

@spendius,
Wow, thanks. It looks like fun and should take the rest of my life to read it. I'm sure I could get it online for free, so, I think I'll wait until I buy my eReader next year. It sounds like the author relates tales the same way I do, diverse and disjointed. Maybe I could get some insight into myself!

Just heard a fantastic interview on the CBC with Salman Rushdie about the new book. Look forward to reading it.

@BillW,
noooooooooooo

I've never read anything of Rushdie but his books for children - the new one is back in that category.
