@tsarstepan,
My heart goes out to you. I lost three Irivers before I bought a Samsung - I don't seem to be able to lose it.

@tsarstepan,
tsar, you have my condolences. They do need a tether, don't they?

@Kara,
Thank you Ossobuco, Hingehead and Kara for your thoughts in these troubled times. Tried to revisit both the cinema and Duane Reade but to no avail. At least that's according to the respective managers. SIGH! C'est la vie!

My next device I just might weld an inch thick solid steel chain to the device and bolt it around my waist.

@djjd62,
I've pulled up audible.com a number of times but have never signed up for the monthly hit. I entered a few titles and they didn't have them....but the books were available on iTunes.

@Kara,
i started with them before i had an ipod, and mainly to podcast the two Sirius/XM shows (cheaper than a radio subscription), they've got some good promotions every once in awhile and usually give subscribers a free book a couple of times a year

i trie e music for a bit, but they had a pretty poor selection, of course they'd just launched the service at that point, they might be better now

Just found this thread, I love reading. Presently reading Awakening but can't remeber who it's by. I like James Rollins books full of mystery etc.

@annis,
Hi Annis...welcome! Tell us about Awakening.

I am just finishing Abraham Verghese's Cutting For Stone, which I've only put down when duty called. It is an "Indian" novel....large, sprawling, descriptive, emotional. And demanding. I loved it.

I've been buying books kind of willy-nilly lately. I've ended up with some I don't like and some that are great. Current favorite is Stiff: The Curious Life of Human Cadavers, by Mary Roach. I am also watching 6-ft Under in which the book is mentioned in several episodes. I have another Oliver Sacks book (The MInd's Eye) that I am dipping my toe into as well.

@littlek,
Littlek, I read her "Spook," about science and the afterlife, which was fascinating. There is one part about a researcher who is obsessed with proving or disproving the existence of the soul, which led him to weighing a person minutes before and minutes after death to detect a microscopic difference in weight, that of the departed soul.

@littlek,
I thought of you last week while browsing in a used book store where there was a copy of Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome.

@Kara,
I'd like to know about audiobooks as well because some of the stuff I've tripped over is nothing I want to listen to.
