For science class I need to write this report about ecologists. I think it would be interesting to ask some questions to a real ecologist, and then to write some of his or her quotes, does anyone know an ecologist that may help me????
An interesting one may be Margaret Davis, a forest ecologist, specifically faorests that existed thousands of years ago. Or Edward O. Wilson.
You could write about how ecology is a racket for well brought up lower middle class people who think manual work is beneath their dignity and who go about occasionally pretending to be saving whatever it is they have chosen to save and with their stupendous stipends spend the rest of their time in the usual pursuits appropriate to their income bracket such as driving around, flying to exotic locations, only appearing in public when displaying their most altruistic behaviour and having 2.5 kids which will necessitate, at current consumption levels, and assuming they are normal Americans, the pumping out, transportation, refining and burning of approximately 5,000 barrels of crude oil.
You could mention the fighting to ensure steady supplies and the garbage collections from their residences.
That will get you noticed if you do a good job on it although if you have one of those schoolmarm self-importance thrummers invigilating you might get a low mark but that's no problem anymore as high marks are pretty worthless nowaday.
Let's face it Tiger- tigers are not that good and virtuous.
Tiger, You can contact the editors of these sites and I'm sure they hook you up with someone who works as an ecologist:

I'm married to a former ecologist who worked in the Amazon and Australia for years. Despite what Spendius implies, my husband came from a fairly wealthy family and did more than his share of getting dirty doing his job. He was often threatened and bullied by people who didn't like what his research proved. If you want to make money as an ecologist you have to work for big corporations basically doing their lying for them ("Heck no, The Big Filthy Company didn't put all those toxins in your water supply and I can prove it!"). However, the vast majority of ecologists are researchers, often working for governments and universities. They are motivated by their love for the beauty of the natural world and the belief that we should leave the planet a better place than how we found it.
Oh yeah!
".....we should leave the planet a better place than how we found it." and get the Dow Jones into single figures.
And anyway- our society is posited on countervailing arguments. Accepting the cosy, complacent and reassuring spiel is the surest way to ruin. That's why we have a two-party system.
Get after them damn ecologists Tiger. Give 'em hell. Wake 'em up. See if you can get them to sign the Kyoto agreement. They are featherbedding. Green Witch's husband excluded of course.
You should have seen David Bellamy touring the country in his six-cylinder sport's car promoting his book about leaving the planet etc etc. and attracting large audiences. (car park £2).
Thanks a lot everyone. Now I will try to search in these places. thanks again
