In Greek mythology, Theseus was a hero and king of Athens who was noted for his many great deeds: killed Procrustes and the Minotaur and defeated the Amazons and united Attica.

Quite where the exotic frankincense comes in I'm not sure, but the only other word that fits is "toeless".

Thanks contrex

That might be just what I need. I tried a wordfinder site and got tieless as well as toeless !!!! I think Theseus fits it better.

Hi, anng!

Sorry for butting in anng, but I can't help thinking something is not quite right here.

1. With a cryptic, the use of 'exotic frankincense' must have something to do the the answer.

2. Are you sure your other clues are correct?

3. Which cryptic puzzle is it?

If you can provide some of the 'crossing' clues and answers (ie from which you obtained your T,E,E,S letters) and double check the exact wording of the frankincense clue, I will have a good look at it and see what I can come up with. I tend to think the SEE and HERO may be an anagram.

Please get back to me on this. I will wait around for a while.

Hi lezzles

It's now morning, so sorry if you waited for a while. It was very near my bedtime when I put my plea on!

I checked all the other across clues and all but one I know are right.

The last one, which puts an 's' at the end is:

Pianists wanting a grand before performing.

I know a grand is a thousand or 'm' and the only thing I could get out of this one is swapping the 't' for an 'm' making the word pianisms instead. This means The technique or execution of piano playing (plural)

This is the Sunday Times crossword in the Weekend Australian

Theseus
Hi Anng,

The answer is THESEUS. See exotic is ESE. Another name for frankincense is TUS or THUS. So THUS around ESE is THESEUS which means that the straight clue is hero as Theseus was a Greek hero.

Cheers
