The Perseid meteor shower starts tonight and ends Tuesday morning with the peak being Monday night. Those who want to see the show should look at the Northeastern sky and thank the fact that we are at the new moon!
Bummer, I missed it last night. Thanks for the reminder.

IS there, by any vanishingly smal chance, that it can be seen from the southern hemisphere?
Sad puppy^^

Quincy - I don't know. Check your local news web site and or look at something like space.com
Did anyone see anything last night? We're having a small party tonight and we may head over to a nearby open space (I'm in a city and can see only buildings and tall trees to the NE) to see if we can see anything.

I forgot to look up last night. And I was up late too -- couldn't stop watching a show about Elephant attacks. I was kicking myself this morning when I remembered.

Not last night but last Tuesday.
It was a magnificent falling star, which trace lasted for at least five seconds.
I saw it towards the Perseids..

I went out eastward to the desert with my girlfriend at around 10:30 MDT, and saw a steady stream of meteorites. There were a few that were very big and lasted a few seconds. There was one that you could actually see that had broken up into four large pieces as it burned up in the atmosphere.

I went out alone at around midnight and saw nothing! I didn't wait around to long, though.
