How long will the lamps die out? And can I pick up a replacement lamp at my local best buy store or circuit city, or do I have to go to their official website and buy it from them?

That would help -- the Owner's Manual should state the life of the lamp but the typical Mercury arc will last between 5,000 to 6,000 hrs. It is a good idea to have a replacement handy.
