Quote:Men who practice S&M score higher on tests of psychological well being.

What is a test of psychological well-being like? It seems to me that the term "psychological well-being" is highly subjective and means nothing more than "people who are the way I would like to be".
S+M is usually practiced between consenting adults meaning there is not abusive or harmful. Still the fact that it is taboo means that the people who practice it have to be very self-concious and willing to break the norms of society.
The group who admits to S+M on a servey would most likely consist of people who are unusually self-confident.
Does self-confidence equal psychological well-being? Who knows-- but it certainly would be an important part of my test.
