I was born in New York.

I became a Giants Fan.

We lived in the Bronx.

Grandfather enraged, a Yankees fan.

(I was so pissed when the Giants moved from New York to San Francisco, and became absorbed in the "good old days." That's how i became a baseball history dweeb.)

Go find a DVD rental.

(Shoeless Joe Jackson started playing baseball in the Carolina mill leagues--cotton mills would hire boys who were good at baseball to play on their teams, because the league was very popular and very competitive. He was playing for one of those mill teams, and was wearing a new pair of cleats--sports shoes used in baseball--which were giving him blisters. So he took them off, and went to bat in his stocking feet. One of the fans of the opposing team was shouting at him, and called him a "shoeless son of a b****--and the name Shoeless Joe stuck with him ever after.

He is one of the greatest baseball players of all time. The "modern era" in baseball is dated from 1901, when the American League and the National League joined to form "Major League Baseball." In the modern era, Joe is number six on the all-time single season batting average [the number of times you hit the ball compared to the number of times you try to hit the ball] list, hitting .408 in 1911. He is also number three on the all time batting average list for his entire career. He has the highest single season batting average for a rookie in professional baseball history. Ty Cobb, one of baseball's greatest players and one of the most hated men in the history of professional sports, who never had a good word for anyone, said that Joe was the greatest natural hitter he had ever seen. He also said you could be standing outside the stadium, hear the crack of the bat and know that Shoeless Joe had just hit the ball. Babe Ruth, who for a long time held the record for the most home runs, said that he modeled his batting style on Shoeless Joe. In the motion picture Field of Dreams, Shoeless Joe is portrayed by Ray Liotta, so i strongly recommend that you rent a copy of the film.
