Heard something for the first time recently that really, really enthuses you? Not necessarily a new recording, but something new to you. Feel free to share your enthusiasm here! Very Happy

I discovered Martha Wainwright almost by accident. A small CD going for cheap at a music shop I was in on Saturday. Anyway, I really love her music! When the Day Is Short features twice on this little CD. I posted the lyrics to the "... stuck in your brain thread." I'm going to buy more!
Martha, BTW, is the daughter of Loudin Wainwright & Anna McGarrigle, & sister of Rufus! A lot of musical competition there!

Here's an article posted by the Guardian when she was performing in the UK:

These are the only lyrics from the CD I have that I can find on the internet. So I'll post them again here. Great song!:

"When The Day Is Short"

When the day is short
And the nights are long
It's a different world
Where the rules are wrong

And I, I will go home with who
Whoever is sure
Are you sure?

And I don't care if you
If you love me tomorrow just
Love me tonight & I
I will be all right
I'll be all right
I'll be all right
Until tomorrow night

And it's oh so long
Meet your, meet your friends at the bar
And is that who those people are?
They they seem so very...oh, far
They seem so far
Is that who they really are?

And on the jukebox is your
Is your only song & I
I have never remembered the words
Now I've waited, waited too long
I've waited too long
Our love is gone

No more sober words of love
No more walks in the park side
No more sweet & shy touches, yeah
We're just lovers in the dark
Feel nothing, leave no mark
But it was fun when we saw sparks

When the day is short
And the nights are long
It's a different world
Where the rules are wrong

I'll be all right
I'll be all right

~

Just listening to Martha Wainwright's - New York in the Fall. How nice!

Next is: Question of etiquette.

Oh good, another admirer! I think she's terrific, Francis!

Please could I have a translation of the title of this track, on the cd I have here? Sorry to be such an ignoramus! Embarrassed :

Dis, Quand Reviendras - tu?

She sings this with such verve! I love it, though I have no idea of what she's singing about! Confused

"Dis, quand reviendras-tu" is the title of a French song by Barbara, who died a few years ago.
It translates as: Tell me, when will you come back?

Oh, that's sad. She sings it quite beautifully.
But who is Barbara?

Thanks, Francis.

I can have the lyrics in French but it's a way too long to translate...

That's OK, Francis. It's a long song, yes.
I was just wondering who Barbara was?

Here's more. Now I'll have to check out Barbara's music! This could get expensive! Smile :

...............BARBARA, sings french chansons and is not so well known at this time outside France and Canada. But I know, that she is a hot tip to a minority worldwide, 'cause there are CDs made in Japan, and I bought two very rare CDs at Tower Records in New York City some years ago. On November, 24th 1997 Barbara died at age 67. When I read about this in the news, I was shocked, because her music accompanied me and my feelings for so many years. Her last (wonderful!) album came out just in 1997. .........

Hmm...I'm not a big fan of Martha Wainwright, but I've been discovering a lot of other great music lately.

J. Tillman is the most recent addition to my list of Artists that deserve to be heard. His song "Lilac Hem" got me hooked, and the rest of his songs were just a bonus (except for "Cecil, My Love," for some reason I don't like that song).

His guitar sounds a lot like Iron & Wine's, if you like that kind of stuff...

This is so frustrating, Individual!: I get the first few bars of the music (on Windows media player) then the sound totally cuts out. I'm going to have to do something about this! So I can tell you that guitar strumming at the beginning of Lilac Hem was quite beautiful. The rest will have to wait till I get this problem fixed, dammit! Evil or Very Mad

Um ... any theories, anyone, about what the problem with my Windows media player could be? Confused

Maybe you just have to wait. I takes a while to download the whole song..

I prefer a bit more rhythm...

msolga, are you streaming the song or did you download it and then try to play it?

OK, I'll try again later, Francis. It happens often, though. I'm seeing my computer tech. tomorrow so I'll ask him to take a look if all else fails. Thanks for trying to help.
