40 acres on a land map appear to be square. what is Its length and width?

40 acres = 1742400 sq ft
square root of 1742400 = 1320 (feet)

You couldn't work this out yourself?

640 ac in a square mile--40 acres is 1/16th of a square mile--as the shape is square the height and width is the same, the area of a square is the length of a side time the length of a side.

So the length of a side is a number that can be multiplied by itself that is 1/16 of a square mile.

1/4*1/4=1/16

So the length of a side is one quarter of a mile.
