1) When I used to do Google Searches, next to each resulting hit was an icon indicating the safety level of the site. I am no longer receiving this icon. How may I get it back?
2) I have been receiving a lot of pop-ups. How can I stop them?

Sounds like you've got spyware, which may very well be causing both issues. Run Norton or McAfee, plus you might want to go to an earlier restore point as well.
