I prepared a vegetable soup, and I put in a container of salsa that was entirely too hot. I've heard you can put in a (is it a potato - or an apple?) to "calm" the heat a bit. Help. the soup is for a luncheon today!

I think what I would do is strain the soup, keeping the vegetables and tossing the broth. Then, make a new broth (use canned broth if you're in a real pinch) and add the vegetables. That should tame it down a bit.

Potatoes work for salt. Put in a little sugar and that should "calm" it down.
