I am reading the latest..."Stalin's Ghost".

Am I alone in loving this series?

Haven't read about Renko in a long time, but I used to be quite the fan.
Will put the new book on my list - thanks, Dlowan.

He's the character, not the author....

The author is Martin Cruz Smith.

You may recall Gorky Park?

The ones about Renko are kinda thrillers, or detective fiction, I guess......but set in Russia...and I just adore them.

They are fascinating in terms of reflecting how Russia has changed, but I just love the tone.

There may be a few you have missed, Osso.

There's big gaps between them...but he's regualr, in a very spaced out way.

I see the last book I read featuring Renko was Polar Star, circa 1990.
I liked the Gorky Park movie too, with William Hurt as Renko (if I remember correctly.)

Just visiting this thread to enlighten myself on who this Arkady Renko fellow actually is, Deb.
Now I know.
My guess was that he was some sort of obscure spiritual/philosophical writer.
(Stop your laughing now!)

Lol!!!!

He's a fairly philosophical, very ironic, character, though.

Osso...there's three, Ithink, between Polar Star and Stalin's Ghost.

Haven't read anything since Gorky Park but I keep hearing good things about this latest so it seems I have some catching up to do.

OK, OK, I'm off to Amazon or Powells.

I've got to read something else, I've got to read something else, I've got to read something else...
(I'm on p. 1004 of the 1479 page A Suitable Boy, and about to personally kill Mrs. Rupa Mehra.)

He's a newish Russian-American author. Not in the same genre as your boy there, but funny as hell. Here's his wiki bio.

I have read Gorky Park, Polar Star, and Red Square. I still think Gorky Park is the best. I had heard that Martin Cruz Smith was unhappy with the movie version of Gorky Park. However, the novel was very complex -- the movie could only present a "Reader's Digest condensed" version.
