Okay, I'm looking for some works which fit one or more of the below criteria:

- Modern American social commentary
- Satire
- Witty humor, but with substance
- Stupid and risque things that happen in a New York City
- Fresh ideas and themes
Any suggestions appreciated.

David Sedaris.

"Sex and the City," maybe.

Possibly Tom Robbins's Skinny Legs and All, which gives you at least three out of your five criteria: it is wittily but substantively humorous; it involves stupid and risqué things happening in New York City; and its ideas and themes are fresh. The book isn't explicitly a social commentary or a satire, but I'm sure a determined reader could interpret it as one or the other or both, if push came to shove.

Hmm. I don't really read the types of books that you're referring to, but I know a book that fits one of the categories. Nicholas Nickelby by Dickens has some nice witty humor. It's also a classic (and over 700 pages), if that means anything to you. It's set in England, though.

If you want to know about stupid and risque things that happened in NYC, just ask me about my vacation there. Razz
