identity theft/internet scams

I posted this on Letty's query re: identity theft.

Thought it was important so reposted on this thread rather than have some who might be interested miss out on info.

I'm a little apprehensive since reading of identity theft in yesterdays business section of the Boston Herald and then receiving a call from my son in law for the same reason. So I decided to get some info and found it on Internet scams:

http://www.ccmostwanted.com/scams.htm

Also some good info on site just activated by federal trade commission on 7/22/2003:

http://www.ftc.gov/

I think we have entered the twilight zone.

Hi Phoenix:

Yeah, there's a lot of good stuff here not the least of which is a list of cases by FTC against unfair business practices. It's an imposing list and for those interested good reading. Enjoy.

Hi ye110man:

Welcome to able2know. Thanks for your input. The number of ways unscrupulous people are using the internet has grown and a neverending vigil is now necessary so the naive no longer falls prey to their machinations. I hope you take a look at the sites I posted. It's a real eye opener. Hope you enjoy our site.
