Anyone know how to email EBay WITHOUT having to register?

Ok, I know this is a dumb question.....

However, I am being harassed by emails supposedly from ebay, saying I have reneged on payment.

I am assuming they are some sort of scam. OR someone has used my email to register in some scam.

In either event, I want to communicate with ebay.

However, when I attempt to communicate with them from their site, I am always directed to register.

I actually do not wish to give them my details, I just want to talk to them, but the best search of their site I can do allows me no way to do this.

I really do NOT want to ring the US and waste money.

I can ignore it, of course, but it is very annoying.

This seems to be the email to use for reporting stuff to eBay:

spoof at ebay.com

(I de-@-ized it since it would seem cruel to offer up that email address to the spambots...)

If you suspect the email is not from ebay forward them to [email protected]

I got the information from fightidentitytheft

Most companies have an email address to report anyone pretending to be that company.

Thank you....I will see if that goes through.

The email given on the site for such things demands that you register, at least as far as I was able to find.

Go on tell me...that was plainly visible on their website?

Embarrassed

I tried all kinds of possible emails, and they all bounced.

I didn't think of "spoof".

Edit:

Yay! I got a response!

Of course, although I said I never had, and never wished to, register with ebay, it directed me to sign and in and contact them that way, but it DID say they would look into it.

I got the info the same place as parados. I found it by doing a Google search for "report scams ebay."

Glad it went through!

Doh!

I googled all sorts of stuff, and didn't come up with that!

Embarrassed

Thankfully, it was just a scam, and nobody has used my identity on ebay.

I have pointed out how difficult it has been to get to them, and said they need to have an email address on their site which you can use without having to register.

Although a real person is clearly answering, the messages are mainly pro forma, and I doubt they are reading what I say thoroughly, so I doubt there will be a response to that complaint, though.

I see you got the info you needed. I was in the middle of typing out this response when the cute UPS guy came to my house. Sorry dlowan, but he is cute (and nice).

On the main page - at the top right corner click on "Help".

It should re-direct you to another page. If not, then click "Contact Us" from that "Help" option.

Once on this page (which is the help page) it says "Contacting Customer Support"

Towards the bottom of this page under "Contact Customer Support"

Click on "Contact Us"

Once on this page click on "I'm A Guest"

You should be able to handle it from there.

I will post this anyway. I wanted to go to the site myself to see how to contact them if I ever need to (except I wouldn't be a guest).

Thanks TTH.....I actually TRIED that the first few times I tried to contact.

The "I'm a Guest" triggered yet another registration page!

Your right, it did Evil or Very Mad

I didn't continue from there due to the fact I would have had to pick a violation and explain it. So, I went back there just now and continued through that process. It would not let me email them as a guest.
Apparently they only accept email from account holders.

I can see why they have that policy. It is probably only to deal with their members and problems in transactions.

I don't necessarily agree with that policy btw.

For those of you in the USA you can report scams through the FBI
site which goes to IC3. They are in charge of Cyber Investigations.
The FBI site also has a page with updated internet scams that they list.

I sent an inquiry to eBay regarding an email I received that stated it was from eBay. This was eBay's response
back to me. What you see in parenthesis I put x's instead of the actual # or my member name. I also did not include the
entire response they sent me due to length.

Subject: RE:(xxxxxxxxx) - Your recent report to eBay's Trust and Safety
Department
(xxxxxxxxx)
Date: Fri, 29 Dec 2006 17:37:47 +0000
"Hello (xxxxxx),

Thank you for contacting us about email solicitations that are falsely
made to appear to have come from PayPal. The email you reported did not originate from PayPal or eBay.

We are very concerned about this problem and are working diligently to
address the situation. We are currently investigating the source of
these emails to take further action."

I do believe dlowan that they do care about these type of scams. They may not be aware of the scam unless someone actually
reports it. They can't fix what they don't know.

I'll tell you what...those spoof emails are very very well done.

They used ebay logos, paypal logos, links, the works.

The people who send these out know what they are doing.

I am glad you got this straightened out without losing your identity. (or your mind)

I think that all current ebay account holders here on A2K should send emails requesting a guest link for spoof emails such as this.

It's not fair that you have to register with them so you won't be harrassed.

They are really well done. That is the problem and why so many people are taken. That is the
reason I do report what appears to be a scam to the site itself and the FBI one as well.

spoof @ ebay . com works without having to register.

It just did not appear (at least to my eyes) on their website.

They have not responded to my requests that it do so. I just get the same spoof avoidance instructions if I say anything about it.

Shrugs.

They ARE convincing, those spoofs.

I just knew I had no account.

I reported another one yesterday, as it happens.

I checked into it further and it is on their site. Instead of contact us, it is listed under the
HELP section. You do not need an account to report it to them. I quoted what they have written below:

"To report suspicious email:
Use your email program to forward the message to" (spoof @ . ebay.com)
"Important: In order for eBay to investigate your report, you must forward the email without
adding attachments, adding text or altering text.
Once you have forwarded the email, you can delete it from your email account."

What is in parenthesis I changed. After my report to them back in Dec. they have made changes
to up their security and they notified me through email.
