I just made my 10th order from Amazon.com and never had any trouble before this. I made an order for $29.99 and was supposed to get free shipping. When a copy of the order was sent to me they added a $6.17 shipping charge. Is there anything I can do to have the shipping charge removed? Thanks for any help!

Did the remove the free shipping because of the $10 rebate?

No! You only get free shipping if it is an Amazon product itself (books).
If the shipper was a different entity, they'll charge you postage, not Amazon.

On Step 3 of the checkout process you didn't select the free shipping (it defaults to "Standard shipping"a nd you have to manually select the Free Super Saver shipping.). I just ran through the checkout proces myself on that item to verify and got the same $6.17 shipping fee.

You might be able to contact their customer service and explain what happened and get them to change it. If not, cancel your order and reorder it.

I sent their customer service a message and asked for the shipping charges to be removed.

if you are persistent enough, they might send you a gift certificate in the amount you feel you are owed...

I'll post the response from Amazon if and when they reply.

From Amazon.com

To compensate you for this misunderstanding, as your order would
have qualified for free shipping, I have requested a refund of the
shipping costs for this order. This refund should go through within
the next 2 to 3 business days, and you should see a credit of $6.17
on your next credit card billing statement.
