Can you think of any other song that mentions a singer of another song or references another song or was written in response to another song in the same way?

Range Life
Pavement

out on tour with the smashing pumpkins
nature kids, they don't have no function
i don't understand what they mean
and i could really give a f**k.
the stone temple pilots,
they're elegant bachelors
they're foxy to me are they foxy to you?
i will agree they deserve absolutely nothing
nothing more than me

dreamin' dream dream dream....

Hey, this has a north-south angle, too. Pavement was a northern CA band, sang a lot about southern CA (they didn't like it). And here they are singing again about a southern CA band (the Pilots) and the southern CA scene again.

Which is obiously a hyper-hip reference to the SWA thing.

And, by the way, Skynyrd was THE emblem of the racist reactionary redneck contingent in my part-racist, part-reactionary, part-redneck norCA town and I've gotta say I've got kind of a conditioned, visceral, negative response to their music as a result of it.

ARTHUR CONLEY lyrics - "Sweet Soul Music"

Do you like good music
That sweet soul music
Just as long as it's swingin'
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Out here on the floor now
We're going to a go go
Ah dancin to the music
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Spotlight on Lou Rawls y'all
Ah don't he look tall y'all
Singin' loves a hurtin' thing now
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Spotlight on Sam and Dave now
Ah don't they look boss y'all
Singin' hold on I'm comin'
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Spotlight on Wilson Pickett
That wicked picket Pickett
Singin Mustang Sally
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Spotlight on Otis Redding now
Singing fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa
Fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Spotlight on James Brown now
He's the king of them all, yeah
He's the king of them all, yeah
Oh yeah, oh yeah

London calling to the faraway towns
Now war is declared, and battle come down
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls
London calling, now don't look to us
Phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling, see we ain't got no swing
'Cept for the ring of that truncheon thing
