How to check if my bankruptcy is not on record anymore

Bankrupcy lasts 7 years on your credit (I think). The best way to know is to get your credit report.

I heard you have to wait ten years instead of 7 to clear the bankruptcy record.

You are entitled to a free credit report once a year, from all three reporting agencies. Use the link above. There are other sites that offer "free" reports, but to get them you have to buy some service. Here, they will ask you if they can interest you in other services, but they will give you the reports whether you buy or not.

Running one inquiry on your report may lower the score slightly...but not a lot. If you have good credit, you have good credit...bad credit, bad credit. A point or two doesn't matter.

If you run it on yourself, I don't know if an inquiry shows or not. I don't think it does, but I'm sure. Either way, it's worth it to check your report every year or so to know where you stand.
