Computer crashed?!?! when downloading Adobe Reader upgrade

Actually, not me but my friend asked me if I could ask some folks here.

Here's what she said.

I upgraded to Adobe Reader 7.0. it went to restart and none of my start up programs loaded. Now I couldn't get anything to work. It said something about dll's not running the first time it locked up and shut down.

Now every time I start up, it loads windows, then once in windows, I am stuck. It seemed to get confused when it was shutting down to do a restart. After I had installed 7.0. Then when it rebooted, it was the way I described above.

Also says I will not be able to run my spyware program because window task manager is not running and cannot be started.

I deleted the program through program files. Says it's gone.

What to do?!?! Someone with computer smarts has to know. I'm currently in safe mode with networking.

Thanks!!! Smile

Sounds like it's still in the startup menu.

From memory, you go Start > Run and type 'msconfig' and hit enter.

Select the startup menu, and scan through the list, and find the troublesome bugger, then uncheck the box that makes it start up at reboot.

I'm no boffin, but that's all I can think of to do.
