I have been, like many here, a longstanding member of Abuzz. Today I tried to access it and no matter what I did I was told I wasn't a member and should register. I don't want to lose my Abuzz screen name, people there, as well as here, know me as Tomkitten, and this gives a continuity to threads and responses that is very enjoyable..

I did change my email address recently, but have been accessing Abuzz perfectly well even so, until this morning.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Confused

I've run into the same problem at times. try logging in w/ your screen name (in the box where it asks for your email address) & password....worked for me.

Thanks, discogail, I'll give that a whirl.

(I emailed Abuzz support, but experience has taught me that there will be no response, so that's why I turned to a2k.)

(Sorry about the duplicate post.)

Discogail - worked for you, but not for me. I guess Abuzz has lost a member. Which is too bad, because I did enjoy the music, art, and books forums. Sad Sad

So?
So, TomKitten, you did not enjoy the technology/PCs forum?

Tomkitten,

Abuzz's database has some pretty serious issues. Many (and I'm talking in the thousands) accounts have been corrupted in the database.

I am not sure if it is the case with you, but it sounds like it. Have you deleted cookies recently?

My account has this problem once, I was lucky enough to get in contact with an Abuzz tech and they fixed it for me (though it broke again, and I have not bothered trying to get back in).

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to restore your account access, they need to fix this.

You can, however, do a workaround. You can either create a new account or you can try to forge a cookie with your login info.

The cookie trick is not simple and I can't provide any help with that (mainly because I do not want to write cookies for you to put on your computer). It's kinda sad that you are coming here for tech support. I wish there were someone there to help you.

Ahh the good ole days.

Oops! Yes, Alex, I thoroughly enjoyed, appreciated and profited by the Abuzz PC forum. It was probably the one I spent most time with and certainly the one I got most help from. When I think of the problems that Abuzz PC people solved for me I am totally embarrassed by the way I phrased my posting. Embarrassed

I should have said, "besides the very important PC forum, I enjoyed..." Embarrassed

So I bow my head in shame. Embarrassed

Thanks, Craven.

I too wish Abuzz were in better shape. However, most of the PC people who have been so helpful to me in the past, directly and indirectly, seem to have migrated to a2k.

And no, I haven't knowingly deleted any cookies. I haven't visited Abuzz for a day or two, but I haven't made any computer changes in that time, so I guess I was one of the unlucky thousands.

I may try again, with a slighly altered screen name which I hope will be recognizable to old Abuzz hands.

No need to alter the name if you don't want to. Abuzz will accept a duplicate name.
