What does this song mean?
Is it a happy song or a sad song or does it depend?
Quote:Someone told me long ago theres a calm before the storm,
I know; its been comin for some time.
When its over, so they say, itll rain a sunny day,
I know; shinin down like water.
Chorus:
I want to know, have you ever seen the rain?
I want to know, have you ever seen the rain
Comin down on a sunny day?
Yesterday, and days before, sun is cold and rain is hard,
I know; been that way for all my time.
til forever, on it goes through the circle, fast and slow,
I know; it cant stop, I wonder.
Ummm.... errrrr.... I just realized that this topic was a little, shall we say.... narrow?
To expand --
Is there any song that you're unsure of it's happy or sad content?
Or, is there a "happy" song that makes you feel sad (or vice versa)?
I remember crying for about 10 hours listening to ELO's "Mr. Blue Sky" one day because it made me so sad and it is really a pretty happy song.
Wonderful World always bothered me.
I know that Satchmo ment it to be a happy song, and it is, but what bothers me is .. well...
How can a black man living through the very edge of slavery see everything so 'light ' and happy?
Not in any negative way.. but it seems odd that he would BE happy.
And not that he doesnt have a right to be happy.. it.. well..
being a black man then, I would guess that
People hated him for his skin color everywhere he went.
He could not do alot with hislife outside of his own home/ community..
Only until later on in his life ( after the 50's) was there any sort of 'freedom' developing.
I think that would have been a scary time to grow up in, and an even harder time to try to become a musician to the people who hate you.
But he did succeed. So .. I guess he does have a reason to be happy..
Ohhhh! Excellent choice.
One of my favorite versions of that is the one Joey Ramone did when he was dying of cancer.
I really like your "story" though and I have never thought of it from that perspective.
Wonderful!
Thanks for that.
