LSM,

While you are entitled to your opinion about Biden and Dodd, they didn't do anything wrong at all; the documents they wanted to see were within their right to ask for and should have been delivered.

It really strikes me how much of a hypocrite you are. Seriously. I mean, the Republicans have used every trick in the book to get what they want out of Congress for the last 6 years; they lock Dems out of policy meetings completely. They never allow a Dem amendment to make it to the floor, ever. They restructure the Ethics committee to keep their members from being investigated. They completely re-write bills during Conferencing. They reduce the time actually spent in the House and Senate so there is no real discussion or debate between people anymore. They submit 1000-page bills and then demand a vote on them that same day before anyone has a chance to read them.

In short, the Republicans have done each and every single thing they possibly could have done to keep the Democrats from having any say whatsoever in the policy and bill-writing proccess. For you to say that Dodd and Biden were in the wrong is downright ludicrous. The people you support rely upon dirty tricks to get what they want.

Cycloptichorn

ps. just because you declare something hogwash... doesn't really make it so, now does it?

Hypocrite? I have been very critical of many republicans, but you seem to miss that. I know the repubs play the same games, what does that have to do with dodd & biden playing games? You want to talk about the games that repubs play, fine, I'll read & comment, agree or disagree, but I won't make excuses for the repubs because the dems do it.
You like to throw personal remarks around when you don't like what's being posted, fine, but that says a more about you than it does me.
Dodd & biden used the request for documents to delay the hearings, even the revered CNN report says that.

"He isn't going to be confirmed for two reasons:

1, there were some questions of illegal NSA intercepts which held up his confirmation last time, if you recall. The same senators have promised to demand the info on the same intercepts, and the Bush admin most definately doesn't want to be talking about it.

2, he's a bully, and doesn't present an image of working together with other nations. Now, since you Republicans all have a little bit of a bully in you, you see this as strength instead of weakness. This is quite dangerous for America and won't be tolerated under a Dem congress. "

1. I am SURE if we did a background check on every elected and appointed official "SOME" questions will arise. This is an excuse being used to block the appointment, not a reason.

2. It seems the liberals want a Ambassador who place the needs of those who resent and are enemies to America before those of America nad our allies. I have sen no evidence that he is "bullying" anyone. He seems to be approaching his job in an objective manner while keeping the interest of America and our allies at the forefront.

The documents didn't delay the hearings one bit. If the Prez wanted the hearings to go forth, all he had to do was release the documents.

But, he wouldn't do so, because there are likely illegal things involved.

So instead of Dodd and Biden perhaps you should be examining the actions of the Executive branch in holding up Bolton's nomination.

1, It only blocks the appointment if the Administration refuses to provide the information requested. If they wanted Bolton in, they would have done so.

2, you don't understand how a good ambassador works. He doesn't tell other countries how it is going to be. He doesn't even have to be aggressive about promoting America's interests.

What he really has to do is to make other countries want to work together with us, to provide leadership. I haven't seen much evidence of this.

You have got to be kidding! Of course the request for the documents held up the hearings. Bush would not turn them over because they contained sensitive national security info that would've been on the front page of the NYT by the evening edition & dodd & biden knew that. I believe that dodd & biden were/are obstructionists, not stupid.

Bull crap. You have no clue what those documents contained, so don't make statements like you do.

And, since when do documents have to be given to congress to be leaked to the media? The Executive branch is full of leaks all by itself.

Sorry, but that's not an excuse.

This from a poster that puts his intellect above everyone elses? This from a poster that can't debate without name calling? This is more like a tantrum from an uncontrollable brat.

I call you a troll because you act like one, no other reason.

It's very apparent that you aren't intellectually above anybody. You haven't done squat with reasearch with any reputable source. Maybe moveon or democrat underground.
I had thought that you might be one that coulddebate without the vitriol, I was wrong. In fact, you're the norm here, it seems. there are a few that can actually debate without making it personal, you aren't one of them. From now on I will read your posts with that in mind & not take anything you say seriously.

If you find vitriol to be the norm here, one can only speculate on the reasons you continue to produce such a large volume of posts here everyday. My guess is you enjoy attention, even if mostly negative, or that you enjoy feeling as if you're yanking people's chains. In any case, congratulations for generating and receiving more flame posts in a shorter time than I've seen in my years here. You must be one world class assh*le.

You thought correctly - I can debate without the vitriol. But I see no reason not to speak my mind as I say fit, when I say fit, even if that opinion happens to be about another poster and their ignorance of such elementary knowledge as, say, the constitution.

You have a habit of making a claim, then being unable to back that claim up with any real knowledge, and then claiming that those who demand you produce said knowledge are attacking you for doing so. Classic troll behavior.

Just on this thread, you've claimed that Senators have acted in an unConstitutional fashion. When asked to explain that, you cannot, and the conversation devolves as you switch from one justification to another in a desperate effort to shore up your position that the Dems are evil for not letting the Republicans get what they want outta government.

In another thread, you showed a real lack of knowledge about what the president's duties are, Constitutionally, and when called on it you don't admit that you were wrong, but change your tack to another argument instead.

On the Socialism thread which you started, it has been shown that Socialism doesn't have anything at all to do with many of the programs that you think it does, and that you are using the term incorrectly; but you don't back down or agree, just keep arguing mendacious points until people get frustrated and start insulting you, at which point you declare yourself morally superior and withdraw from the conversation.

There is a little 'x' in the corner near the name of every poster (thanks to a handy firefox ignore addon that I downloaded) which can be used to ignore everything that person writes. I don't use it on anyone and I don't want to start using it on you; but you need to realize that you aren't making friends and allies around here, at all, with your antagonistic behavior. I find it to be quite constructive and instructive to hear well-formed arguments from the other side; I've probably learned more from GeorgeOb1 and Timberlandko and Thomas than anyone else here, especially in terms of them showing me errors in my thinking....

It isn't a Conservative-Liberal thing either, because believe me, it hurts Timber to have to agree with Setanta and I on anything. Hurts near the liver.

I don't want to discourage you from posting here, but keep in mind that you can have a career here of months, years, decades; the things you say are archived and the relationships you make matter down the road, argumentatively. Many times it is helpful in threads to have those of your same ideological bent construct cases together, and if you don't have them on your side, you can find yourself swamped quite easily.

Sorry for calling you a troll. Don't act in a poor fashion and I will be happy to call you a friend.

Not so much for wally draggle LSM, but for anyone else who's curious...

I PCS'ed (permanent change of station) from Ft Sam Houston on 29 November. I have until 11 December to report to Baynes-Jones Hospital Pharmacy(at Ft Polk) for duty. The last week has been a frazzle of moving and trying to orient to the boondocks of Leesville, LA. One of the first things I did was get my cable and internet connections up and running - I'm spoiled that way...
(and didn't want to miss any of the drama hereabouts Laughing )
