Chet Atkins Gibson

If this guitar I just found is a real one, I just hit the jackpot.

But I dont know how or where to hunt for a validation on the serial numbers...

I have called some of the local music stores, but they are of no help.. YET... I am still waiting on one to return my call.

I was wondering if there was a place online I could plug in the numbers on the back of the guitar and have it tell me if this is a real Atkins?

Anyone?

Contact Gibson. They should be able to look up the number for you.

Well, there certainly is no guitar named Gibson Chet Atkins Gretsch Tennesean like shewolf linked to. The seller is confused. Gibson is a name brand, as is Gretsch. This would be similar to a used car ad saying Chevrolet Monte Carlo Ford Taurus.

It appears shewolf has a Gibson Chet Atkins CEC. I assume she'll get a ballpark estimate from Gibson as to the value. Forums such as the Chet Board will quickly be able to decipher the serial number to help in further identifying this particular guitar.

It can be confidently said this guitar is a vintage no later than 1981. Atkins' career was centered around Gretsch for over 30 years, beginning in the 50's. But like many relationships, things changed and Chet reluctantly endorsed Gibson.

That is not to say the value is any less for this CEC. I believe the guitar is held in a lot of esteem, and with the added provenance associated with Mr. Guitar himself, it certainly is of value to players and collectors alike.

I noticed that strange title in that Ebay auction as well.

In fact, I noticed alot of people with many added titles and names to the guitars they claimed were Atkins . That is why I came to a2k. When swimpy posted to just go straight to Gibson, I was sort of dumbfounded as I never thought of that. Laughing

It is a studio.
It is one of the ones in swimpy's post.

And it is in absolute perfect condition.

Ian's father died over 2 years ago.
He left Ian his entire collection of music stuff. Everything ranging from small shakers, to banjo's , guitars, drums, and some mixers.

All together his collection, by piece alone it totals over 300 .
My husband thought for the longest time , that we could reasonably KEEP the entire collection..

oh god help me.. HA!

It is only now, that he has privacy from his mother to grieve his father, that he sees it in a bit more realistic light.

Three hundred pieces is alot for one person.

So we were going through the closet of guitars, and found this one in its case.
I thought it was ugly and so did he. We were thinking to list it on craigslist at 100 .00 to help cover Jillians ER trip....

pppbbtth.. Razz Good thing I looked it up.
