We've been getting a lot of "undeliverable mail" messages to our business website email address. I assume some spammer is using it as a launching point. What's the best way to get rid of the parasite? My husband is the "webmaster" but he's away for awhile taking care of family stuff, so I guess that puts me in charge Sad of the eviction.

OK - its possible the problem is at your end, and is pretty much just about equally possible what's going on there is happening because somebody else's machine - which has your email in its address book - is infected with something, and is sending out stuff spoofed under your email address.

I'd like to get a little more info. Could you forward-as-attachment one of the bounced emails to me? Any one will do. Use timberlandko at hotmail - dot- com, and put "Green Witch" in the subject line.

Oh, and would you please download the latest version of HiJackThis, and be sure that it is installed to a folder of its own either in your Programs file or directly on your root drive. If you have already installed HiJackThis, be certain its in its own folder and not a temporary or desktop folder (to place HJT in its own folder, open Windows Explorer - Windows key + E or open "My Computer" - locate and select your root drive, the drive on which Windows is installed, and open that folder, right-clicking anywhere in that folder's blank space, select "New">"Folder", name the new folder "HJT", then download and extract, or if you already have the latest version somewhere else move, HJT into that folder). Launch the application, then, from its splash screen, choose "Miscellaneous Tools", or from the main start page, select "Config", then select "Search for updates online", confirm, and be sure your's is the latest version. Once you have it installed and updated, go to its main start page, click "Scan and save log", when it has finished, save the log someplace you can find it (by default, it should save in the folder containining HJT, though depending on how your system is set it might wanna save in your "My Documents" folder - whichever doesn't matter, just make sure you save it and can retrieve it), then close HJT WITHOUT "FIXING" ANYTHING, OR DOING ANYTHING ELSE WITH IT, then copy and post the ENTIRE log to this thread.

When running HiJackThis to scan or fix things, run it from its own folder, WITH NO OTHER BROWSERS, WINDOWS, FILESHARING, EMAIL, OR MESSAGING APPLICATIONS OPEN OR RUNNING

Thanks Timber, I'm leaving tomorrow for a weekend conference, but I'm going to copy down everything for my husband so he will see it when he gets back.

Does it matter that we use a Mac?

Yeah, if you use a Mac, mosta the discovery, analysis, and cleanup tools ain't gonna work. Still, if you can get one of those bounced eMails to me, it might help me figure out what's going on and what to do about it.

OK I'm desperate - over 300 failure notices turned up in our box today.

Where'd ya go Timber? Did you get my email? Anyone - hello - help - another 6 are coming in ...I'm drowning in spam rejections... my delete button has been worn so thin I can see through it...
