If this has already been addressed - I apologize- I looked and didn't see it on the first page of Music and Lyrics.

Anyway - today would have been John Lennon's 66th birthday. He's someone who was too fine of a human being, musician and writer not to be remembered on his birthday. Happy Birthday John- wherever you are.

One of my favorites by him:

Julia
Half of what I say is meaningless
But I say it just to reach you
Julia
Julia
Julia
Oceanchild
Calls me
So I sing a song of love
Julia
Julia
Seashell eyes
Windy smile
Calls me
So I sing a song of love
Julia

Her hair of floating sky is shimmering
Glimmering
In the sun

Julia
Julia
Morning moon
Touch me
So I sing a song of love
Julia

When I cannot sing my heart
I can only speak my mind
Julia
Julia
Sleeping sand
Silent cloud
Touch me
So I sing a song of love
Julia

Calls me
So I sing a song of love
For Julia
Julia
Julia

Personally, I preferred the music of George Harrison, not to detract from John in any way, but due to the circumstances of his untimely and grisly death, I think George gets overlooked.

JOHN LENNON lyrics
"God"

God is a Concept by which
we measure our pain
I'll say it again
God is a Concept by which
we measure our pain
I don't believe in magic
I don't believe in I-ching
I don't believe in Bible
I don't believe in Tarot
I don't believe in Hitler
I don't believe in Jesus
I don't believe in Kennedy
I don't believe in Buddha
I don't believe in Mantra
I don't believe in Gita
I don't believe in Yoga
I don't believe in Kings
I don't believe in Elvis
I don't believe in Zimmerman
I don't believe in Beatles
I just believe in me...and that reality

The dream is over
What can I say?
the Dream is Over
Yesterday
I was the Dreamweaver
But now I'm reborn
I was the Walrus
But now I'm John
and so dear friends
you'll just have to carry on
The Dream is over

"Mother"

Mother, You had Me I never had you
I wanted you but you didn't want me
So I got to tell you
Goodbye , Goodbye

Father, You left me but I never left you
I needed you but you didn't need me
So I just got to tell you
Goodbye , Goodbye

Children, Don't do what I have done
I couldn't walk so I tried to run
So I got to tell you
Goodbye , Goodbye

Hold on John , John Hold on
It's gonna be alright
You gonna win the fight

Hold on Yoko , Yoko hold on
It's gonna be alright
You gonna make the flight

When you'r by yourself
And there's no-one else
You just tell yourself
To hold on

Hold on world , world hold on
It's gonna be alright
You gonna see the light

When you're one
really one
You get things done
like they've never been done
So hold on

Look at me
what am I supposed to be?
what am I supposed to be?
Look at me
what am I supposed to be?
what am I supposed to be?
Look at me
Oh My Love Oh My Love

Here I am
what am I supposed to do?
what am I supposed to do?
Here I am
What can I do for you?
What can I do for you?
Here I am
Oh My Love Oh My Love
Look at me,Oh Please Look at me,My Love
here I am-Oh My Love

Who am I?
Nobody knows but me
Nobody knows but me
Who am I?
Nobody else can see
Just you and me
Who are we
Oh My Love Oh My Love

imni - hope you don't mind me shortening your name - I love George too. John and George were my favorites - although I can't discount McCartney's genius in terms of melody especially (has that ever been ironed out - who exactly wrote what?) and I like Ringo's exuberance (I'd like to see his All Star Band sometime - I think that'd be fun). But I think John and George were definitely the more thoughtful and complex soul of that band, and made them brilliant whenever they were.

I like what you said about there being only one of each of us. That's what makes it so hard to lose people like John Lennon and George Harrison - they're pretty much irreplaceable.

Edgar - I felt the same way about John Lennon being shot , as I did about those Amish girls. I still remember where I was - in a math class in college in NC. He'd been shot the night before and someone spread the news - I couldn't believe it was true. What a sick travesty. Everytime I listen to Double Fantasy it brings it all back, especially the song - I'm Losing You - how prophetic is that title?
But I think he was always looking for his mother, maybe that's why he hooked up with Yoko Laughing. Not to trivialize what was obviously a very strong love between them. I was thinking wherever he is - maybe he's found her- or at least peace. I hope so. He brought a lot of peace to the world through his music.

As we all know, the Beatles are individual, complex personalities. I tend to favor John, but feel a debt to them all. John was capable of doing things I didn't care for, but I don't dwell on a person's faults without just cause. His asperations, as expressed in his writings and recordings, spoke to me in a personal way that puts him very high on my list of favorite people.

"Well, Well, Well"

I took my loved one out to dinner
So we could get a bite to eat
And though we both had been much thinner
She looked so beautiful I could eat her
Well Well Well Oh Well

We sat and talked of revolution
just like to librals in the sun
we talked of womens liberation
and how the hell we could get thing done
Well Well Well Oh Well

I took my loved one to a big field
So we could watch the english sky
Were both feeling guilty
And neither one of us knew just why
Well Well Well Oh Well

We Are All Water (John Lennon)

There may be not much
difference
Between Chairmon Mao and
Richard Nixon
If we strip them naked.

There may be not much
difference
Between Marylin Monroe and
Lenny Bruce
If we check their coffins.

There may be not much
difference
Between White House and and
Hall of People
If we count their windows.

There may be not much
difference
Between Raquel Welch and
Jerry Rubin
If we hear their heartbeat.

We are all water from
different rivers
That's why it's so easy to to meet
We are all water in this vast,
vast ocean
Someday we'll evaporate
together.

There may be not much
difference
Between Eldridge Cleaver and
Queen of England
If we bottle their tears

There may be not much
difference
Between Charles Manson and the Pope
If we press their smile

There may be not much
difference
Between Rockefeller and you
If we hear you sing.

There may be not much
difference
Between Rockefeller and you
If we show our dreams
