imni - hope you don't mind me shortening your name - I love George too. John and George were my favorites - although I can't discount McCartney's genius in terms of melody especially (has that ever been ironed out - who exactly wrote what?) and I like Ringo's exuberance (I'd like to see his All Star Band sometime - I think that'd be fun). But I think John and George were definitely the more thoughtful and complex soul of that band, and made them brilliant whenever they were.
I like what you said about there being only one of each of us. That's what makes it so hard to lose people like John Lennon and George Harrison - they're pretty much irreplaceable.
Edgar - I felt the same way about John Lennon being shot , as I did about those Amish girls. I still remember where I was - in a math class in college in NC. He'd been shot the night before and someone spread the news - I couldn't believe it was true. What a sick travesty. Everytime I listen to Double Fantasy it brings it all back, especially the song - I'm Losing You - how prophetic is that title?
But I think he was always looking for his mother, maybe that's why he hooked up with Yoko

. Not to trivialize what was obviously a very strong love between them. I was thinking wherever he is - maybe he's found her- or at least peace. I hope so. He brought a lot of peace to the world through his music.
