A sad day for Gustav

Online poker soon will be a thing of the past.

Congress passed a law at shutting down online gambling - including
online poker.

Is poker really a game? they asked!

But if you look at it that way, poker isn't gambling any more than buying stocks is. Of course, I don't really think of the lottery as gambling, either (It isn't gambling if you know you're going to lose, right?). Last I checked, buying stocks online wasn't illegal, and playing poker online shouldn't be targeted for death, either.

Prohibition isn't the answer either, as history has proven. So what will
be next for gustav?

A sad day for Gus...

...means that nothing has changed in his poor, little existence.

Feed the capyberas, muck the capyberas, slaughter the capybera, scrape capybera manure off of his (bare) feet, skin the capybera, cook the capybera....

Well, I think, gustav truly enjoyed playing poker.

Towards the end of the month, when money got tight, gustav happily
engaged in a little webcam-strip-poker. Needless to say, he always
won and the girls always paid their gambling debts in due time.

How are they going to do that when some of the biggest sites are in countries like Costa Rica?

It's a law with no teeth.

Reyn, the new law prohibits banks and credit card companies from making payments to online gaming websites. Without a credit card or some form
of payment, you cannot gamble online - regardless where the site originates from.

Paypal might be a loophole though....

Bingo! You've got it. PayPal isn't regulated like banks are and other financial institutions.

Besides, don't fret, as these sites will come up with other ways to get around this sort of stuff. For example, you would send them some money, which they would hold like an account, which you would draw on. You'll see.

Most US large credit card companies already refuse to make payments to online gaming sites. The poker sites use PayPal and other "enterprises", some of them self-fund.

Yes, so it appears as "business as usual", doesn't it?
