Can't log into msn, nor can i access hotmail.com or msn.com

Hi everyone Smile My computer can log into msn.com, hotmail.com and Messenger well enough, but both of the other computers in my home can't log into these 3 even though the net works well in every other way.
No firewall is up and i'm connected to the other computer with a crossover cable. I found that both computers have "hosts.msn" in the drivers\etc folder but deleting that didn't help. hosts.msn has the exact content as the normal hosts file which is just the loopback address.
I ran adaware and spybot, neither helped with this problem. the second computer can ping hotmail.com and msn.com but cannot actually access them through IE explorer and firefox. I even tried accessing the website with the IP and not the DNS name to make sure it wasn't a dns error, and it didn't help

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? By two other computers I mean that i only connect to each of them exclusively from my main computer since i don't have a router

Thanks in advance for any help,
Michael

I had that problem with Gmail a month ago. For 4 days I could not log onto my account even though Gmail worked well for everyone else. I even tried accessing my account through the library and had a friend 2,000 miles away try to get it with no luck. When I tried to enter my password a second time IE would crash! You may just have to wait like I did.

I also can't log onto MSN and Hotmail
I'm at my parents house. The two computers on their network aren't able to log on to MSN, Hotmail, or MSN web based. I have looked for as many viruses as I could find online, and the firewalls are all off. This problem is for both the newest and an older version of MSN. MSN has been uninstalled and reinstalled. This has been going on for almost a week now. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure how gmail is related

I don't know how gmail is even related here. I was able to check my gmail account while at my parents. But no one there uses gmail and the problem existed before I arrived. I was able to log into my hotmail and MSN just fine when I return home to my own computer, so there is nothing wrong with the account.

I suspect my Gmail account has been periodically seized by the federal government under the provisions of the Patriot Act because of some anti-Bush things I wrote. Also, my Verizon cell phone password has been reset twice. Strange things are happening!

Again I have no idea what this has to do with my problem. For anyone else reading this posting with this problem. The problem has gone away and I have no idea what was done to make that happen.

Just a thought. If you have Windows Messenger Live and you have ZoneAlarm then you won't be able to log into your account. You can either download MSN Messenger 7.5 or find a tutorial on how to solve the ZoneAlarm+WML problem. Good luck,
