I buy a lot of cd's, and therefore probably spend a lot of money on music. My computer is my company's laptop, and doesn't have a burner in it.
I was thinking of buying an external cd burner(what..$200?) and downloading music/albums online. But I'm wondering if I'll save money in the long run? Itunes.com is $.99 a song, which definitely would not save me money.
Any sites where you can download songs/albums significantly cheaper? Except for sharing sites that put a ton of viruses on your computer, of course.
emusic.com
monthly fee plus you get to keep the files unlike napster where you have to keep paying for them. Plus you get to download 100 free songs if you sign up at this link:
emusic.com/iskin
How much is the monthly fee? Looks like it's $.25/song.
Sorry I can't help, but I'm interested as well. Just got me an iPod last week.
* eMusic Basic: $9.99 per month/40 downloads - that's $.25 a song
* eMusic Plus: $14.99 per month/65 downloads - that's $.23 a song
* eMusic Premium: $19.99 per month/90 downloads - that's $.22 a song (best value!)
That's about 7 albums(at 12 songs/album) for $20. Not bad at all.
Yep... and they have some pretty good stuff on there.
Plus if you use the 100 free song trial you get an even better deal.
Anyone know anything about external cd burners? What should I look for, ect?
newegg.com
Look for high ratings... they are pretty cheap these days so you could probably find a dvd/cd burner for under $100

Mine is coming in next week.
I belong to winmx.com . You pay a one-time membership fee, very small, about $12.95 for a one-year membership, and after that all the downloads are FREE, no strings attached!
The only disadvantage is that they don't have much in the way of classical music, but all the pop stuff is there.
Got my ipod in on Friday.
I've been in the land of itunes ever since.
Lord help me! I can't get out!
I recently downloaded Hips don't lie by Shakira from
MP3 fusion. The pop-ups were a bit of put-off but certainly no virus problem has since occured. The music too is running fine on my Real Player.
Hey everyone if you want modern music (rock, rap etc.)
then
www.albumbase.com
is a site where you can download completely for free. You just sign up and get your account activated by e-mail. pretty cool.

You're an ass. That site is terrible, all it does is create a ton of popups and make you sign up for online offers.
Does anyone know how much Napster costs? They don't tell you on the site...only can sign up for a free trial, which means you have to download their software first.
