and it's driving me mad!

I don't want to kill it but the clicking noise it is making is driving me crazy!

It's not as bad as having a mozzie in the room but it comes a close second!

Clicking! No kidding?

How about herding it into a glass and taking it outside...?

Clicking? There must be a cricket hiding behind the daddy long legs.

apparently these spiders look the same as ours, but they make this weird clicking noise and have 16 legs:

I've been trying so hard to post a picture for the last half hour. I've clicked IMG, I've clicked URL, I even got really desperate and tried to upload it as an avatar but oh no, wrong size, I don't know what else to do

but I do know it isn't a spider because I like spiders. i do. I always say hello to them when they come into my flat, and if one is trapped in the bath I will take him safely outside.

I said hello to about half a dozen of them earlier who had all made webs on my bay tree. I was planning to snip a load of bay leaves to garnish some food platters on a job I was doing this afternoon but I didn't want to upset the spiders who had worked so hard on their webs so I cut some different leaves in the garden instaed.

Do you think it's a crane fly coz crane flies click. They do, they do. I'm not scared of them, I just don't like the buggers.

By the way, do wasps serve any individual purpose in the great scheme of things at all?

I deleted my instructions, cumulus...

They were incorrect, but using the code from your attempts (before you deleted them) I have managed to do it!

Crane flies don't really scare me, I'd be happy to hold one in my hand. I'm not THAT scared of spiders...

But beetles really freak me out!

Is the critter wearing tap shoes? I've never heard a Daddy Long Legs clicking in all my born days.

Littlek, can you prove me outdated?

Just a thought...

Please don't anyone put a photo of a beetle on here, as I have a genuine phobia about them and if I just clicked on and saw one....

Well, I'd go bonkers!

Thanks Crying or Very sad

What have Paul, John, George and Ringo done to cause such an averse reaction, Smorgs? Laughing

Ha ha. Yes, not funny I know it.

The first picture was the closest resemblance to my uninvited guest.

I don't know why it clicked. Perhaps it was a very old daddylonglegs and had developed a spot of rhuemetism?

Hmmmmm.... what type of being is it, cumulus?

It is a wasp that has saved many a tomato plant, cumulus. They lay their eggs inside on/inside the hides of the tomato caterpillar and when the eggs hatch, the larva eat said host. So, next time you eat a tomato, thank the little beasties.

But I hate tomatoes! Laughing

I'm going to get my magnifying glass out and creep very slowly upto that daddylongthing and nick its castinets [and its tap-dance shoes] while it isn't looking. Wish me luck!

cumulus, welcome to A2K. Check out this link:

What we called "Daddy long legs" were harmless and when we were kids, we would gently touch one leg and say, Which way did the cows go?" The creature would point one of those long legs in a certain direction. We, of course, went to look for said cows.
