What is your favorite love song?

Today, Buddy Holly's "Everyday" kept floating through my head. I love that song. I first discovered it long after it had been recorded. I was filling in for a photographer friend of mine who worked for the University. He had his own private dark room at the school and one of the tapes he kept in the darkroom was a Buddy Holly tape that included "Everyday".

I was in the process of falling in love with someone when I first heard the song.

Years after that, I fell in love with a huge Buddy Holly fan. He loved that song too.

I'm still thinking though.... is that my favorite love song?

Or did it just happen that I fell in love to it twice?

Mr. B and I fell in love, I think, to the Talking Head's "Burning Down The House" but I don't think that counts as a love song.

So....

What is your favorite love song and why?

I love Buddy Holly songs. I have many fav love songs, too. Here is one of the best.

"First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"

The first time ever I saw your face, I thought the sun rose in your eyes.
And the moon and stars were the gifts you gave,
To the dark and the endless sky, my love.
And the first time ever I kissed your mouth,
I felt the earth move through my hands.
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command.

And the first time ever I lay with you,
I felt your heart so close to mine.
And I know our joy would fill the earth,
And last till the end of time, my love.

The first time ever I saw your face.

This is the song that made me a Beatles fan
And I Love Her
(Lennon/McCartney)

I give her all my love
That's all I do
And if you saw my love
You'd love her too
I love her

She gives me everything
And tenderly
The kiss my lover brings
She brings to me
And I love her

A love like ours
Could never die
As long as I
Have you near me

Bright are the stars that shine
Dark is the sky
I know this love of mine
Will never die
And I love her

Bright are the stars that shine
Dark is the sky
I know this love of mine
Will never die
And I love her

"Can't Help Falling in Love", the original version by Elvis Presley, from the movie "Blue Hawaii".

I heard it for the first time at the first boy/girl party I went to, in grade 6, in the '60s. I remember the party because of the song! It's been my favourite love song since then.

I didn't see the movie until sometime in the '80s, maybe '90s when it was on late night TV, and I am not a particular fan of Elvis, but his original version of that song can move me to tears. Corny, huh? Maybe it's the timbre of his voice? Dunno.

Wise men say only fools rush in
but I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay
would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
some things are meant to be
take my hand, take my whole life too
for I can't help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
some things are meant to be
take my hand, take my whole life too
for I can't help falling in love with you
for I can't help falling in love with you

I love Elvis songs.

One night with you
words & music by d. bartholomew - p. king)
One night with you
Is what Im now praying for
The things that we two could plan
Would make my dreams come true

Just call my name
And Ill be right by your side
I want your sweet helping hand
My loves too strong to hide

Always lived, very quiet life
I aint never did no wrong
Now I know that life without you
Has been too lonely too long

One night with you
Is what Im now praying for
The things that we two could plan
Would make my dreams come true

Always lived, very quiet life
I aint never did no wrong
Now I know that life without you
Has been too lonely too long

One night with you
Is what Im now praying for
The things that we two could plan
Would make my dreams come true

Gus, please, spare us lovers here.

Edgar, those are both good songs. I like the Beatles tune better in that it is so simple - almost like the Buddy Holly song in my title "Words of Love". It's brevity almost makes it more...... lovely.

mckenzie, another good choice. That line about "take my hand, take my whole life too" is really, really, romantic.

Loverdoll by Elvis. No point to it, and incredibly chauvinistic by today's standards, but what a song to show off that voice.

Doris Day's "Love Somebody". A duet that sounds completely spontaneous.
