Are there any novels out there tackling platonic friendship between members of opposite genders who do not turn into passionate lovers later on? Chick-lit focuses on the relationships of women and the comradarie amongst men is particularly evident in war stories but we rarely see a solid treatment of this theme between boys and girls.

Good idea for a thread, Elle Le Joie.

With any luck, people will answer...

in the meantime, welcome to a2k.

On the thread question, what springs to my mind, probably unfortunately, are combos of women detectives and male policemen in various police procedural type books. Those protagonists sometimes but not always have a romance of sorts. They often have concurrent extra work lives.

I'm wracking my brain for key characters of both genders together who - not in bias - but to categorize, are both heterosexual - who act as cohorts in a quest of some sort.... sans romance. Again, I come to detective fiction at first thought.

Most novelists add sexual interest as drama, as it does often underlie everything... but, it sometimes doesn't and those times don't seem to make the news.
