I have my computer programmed to virus scan, once a week, at the same time and day. Sometimes, if the computer is not on at the time when it is programmed to scan, I will let it go, and then, when I think about it, turn the scan on manually.
For many years, I have never had a virus. I am pretty careful where I surf, and rarely open attachments, unless I know that someone that I trust has sent it to me.
In the last two weeks though, I picked up four viruses (last week), and one this week. Fortunately, they were fixed by my virus scanner.
Now my question. Has there been a marked proliferation of new viruses lately? If so, have you increased the frequency of your virus scans? To how much?
My scanning schedule varies wildly, but it's roughly every couple of weeks.
How's your firewall? Have you been updating other security measures?
littlek- I have the free Zone Alarm, and it is up to date. I also use Counter Spy.
Well, I've exhausted my expertise on the subject!
Timber!!! Where's Timber?
I voted for "What's a virus scan?" But, I am a Linux user so the better question would be "What's a virus?"
Linux is secure enough and with a little knowledge combined with a firewall, there is very little risk.
But, who am I to gloat...
Well done !
I do a scheduled scan once a week. It takes too long to do every day, there are almost two million files on this PC alone.
Scans once per week
I have my ZoneAlarm Pro on scheduled scanning (Antivirus and Spyware) at 06:15 on Saturday mornings (weekly). Keeping it out the way of my social life as usually I'm pretty dead from the previous Friday and sleeping like a log
So I never get to experience that slowness you start to get when your scanner scans. Recommended.
