What I have noticed, is as people are becoming more comfortable with one another, they are beginning to share bits of their identity, one of which is their sex. As for the others. I just refer to them by their "handle"!

To the people who suggest using the screen name instead of a pronoun, please listen to this.

When Catkin said that Catkin was unable to obtain the documents, Catkin was not particularly clear as to why Catkin could not obtain them. Also, Catkin indicated that Catkin would not be willing to resort to legal means to obtain them because Catkin had a previous bad experience with lawyers -- so Catkin's statement that Catkin had done everything in Catkin's power to obtain them is incorrect.

Don't you folks think using a personal pronoun would make that easier to read?

There is a real problem here. What convention should we use when we do not know the gender of a person to whom we are addressing a reply.

Or something like that.

How about this instead?

When Catkin said that the documents could not be obtained, it was not particularly clear as to why they could not be gotten. Also, it was indicated that Catkin would not be willing to resort to legal means to obtain them because of a previous bad experience with lawyers -- so the statement that everything had been done to obtain them is incorrect.

Some of these sentences are a passive reading, but it's a lot less username-centric this way.
