Is it appropriate for children under 13?

I haven't read it myself, but I'd like to know if "The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy" can be recommended to children under 13.

Yep.
Ive never read the book but from what Ive seen of film/TV it is perfect for teens.
My guy friends grew up on it and love it.

My sons read "Hitchhiker"when they were under 13 and enjoyed it enormously.
