Quite interesting - especially since this forum is going in exactly the opposite direction of one of his conclusions.

Online communities should prove their viability by offering ownership stakes to users: paid subscriptions.
Paid subscriptions here have just ended.

Our dear Joanne got it exactly right:
"our emotional currency is not the company but our invest with each
other"
The technology was simply well-suited to that end. We appreciated what
that technology enabled and we appreciated the hard work and devotion
of the staffers.

Has this been announced anywhere? Have I missed it?

It was announced to the people who had paid subscriptions - in the subscribers' forum.
If you click on Premium Services at the bottom of the page, there's a bit of note.
There may be something offered again sometime in the indefinite future.

Okay, thanks. I guess it's all to do with the new version of A2K coming up soon.

Able2Know.com Subcription
Well, the first idea (running the site on peanut butter) didn't work (ever seen fat hamsters?) so Able2Know has introduced an optional subscription. Subscribers receive access to the Able2Know Subscribers forum and access to the chat room. While the subscription is sure to make you the most popular person in your city it won't give you special treatment on the boards. :-( The use of the chat room is subject to the computer setup you run and is simply a bonus provided as is to the Subscriber's Forum members. As this is a service payments are nonrefundable.
SUBSCRIPTIONS ARE TEMPORARILY UNAVAILAVLE

The lore concerning Abuzz continues to grow. I barely remember Tom Sawyer. I guess we didn't go for the same discussion threads.

Yeah, it's like me, if it doesn't involve certain forums, it doesn't exist.

Reyn--
Proud? More like humble. I'm a bit leery of people who say things so that they can be quoted for what they have said.
