You read these stories and you just can't quite believe them. I feel sorry for the victim's family with their loved one dying this way.

Del. Woman Drives With Body On Roof After Accident

(CBS) BEAR, Del. Delaware State Police said an erratic driver struck and killed a pedestrian in Bear early Friday morning. Officials said the woman drove for miles, seemingly unaware the victim's body was dangling from the roof.

Police said a concerned citizen spotted the driver, 25-year-old Tanya Kunig of Smyrna, driving suspiciously and called 911.

Investigators believe Kunig was under the influence when she struck 44-year-old Teresa Voiers of New Castle.

Authorities said Kunig drove for over two miles with Voiers' body on the roof of her car before being pulled over by State Troopers on Walther Road.

"As they are getting closer down on Route 40 approaching Walther Road, they see an object on top and it appears they see a limb of the victim," said Delaware State Police Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh.

Voiers was pronounced dead at the scene as Kunig was taken into police custody.

Sadly, the incident is not the first time Voiers' family has been struck with tragedy.

"This is the third daughter I'll be burying now" said Delores Voiers, Teresa's mother. "I'm in shock right now, I just don't really know what happened.

Kunig has been charged with vehicular homicide in the second degree and driving under the influence.

Records indicate this is not the first time Kunig has had a run in with the law. She was on the state wanted list for failing to appear in court in January 2006 for an unrelated D.U.I. charge.

What sort of person carries on driving for two miles with a body on the roof, under the influence or not?

The mind boggles...

I believe in this case it was drugs. Probably just didn't have a clue.

I'd like to see lifetime driving prohibitions for this kind of crime.

It's not really that rare an occurrence. Just doesn't make the news often. Seriously.

We had a case not too long ago where someone was dragging a body under her car, was being followed by people trying to flag her down, freaked out (thought she was being stalked by potential carjackers), called her husband to tell him she was driving to the police station because she was frightened, and arrived at the police station with her entourage - still with the body jammed under her car.

No alcohol or drugs involved.

Weird stuff happens out there.

A strange tale indeed...

I don't know about a lifetime driving ban being an adequate deterent though, I've known people for whom not being able to drive was no punishment at all after awhile. They just got used to living without a car and adjusted their lives accordingly...

That's in addition to jail time, of course.
