This is not really a story song, but Bob will be 70 yrs old on the 24TH. This is my way to honor him.

@edgarblythe,
WUMB, a Boston-based accoustic radio station that streams live on the web will honor Dylan's 70 birthday by playing the listeners 70 favorite Dylan songs. Listeners could vote for their five faves.

I voted for:
Lay Lady Lay (because I hate love songs which either put the beloved on a pedestal or debase the speaker. This does neither.)
Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands (because a college classmate played the song continuously for about three months)
With God on Our Side and A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall (because their message is still relevant)
All I Really Want to Do (sarcasm is a Dylan hallmark)

Good picks. My problem is, I like over 70 of his songs, at least I would think I do.

I remember The Thing, too, edgar.

Today is Walt's birthday.

@Letty,
Walt was a trailblazer. He would find good company among the like of Allen Ginsburg, Dylan and such later poets.

@edgarblythe,
Love that one by Roy, edgar, and as I have noted before, the real slave is the poor working man.

Inspired by this fellow:

John Blackstone profiles Chris Downey of Palo Alto, Calif., a blind architect who found a way to navigate around his disability to find continued success in his career.

He devised blueprints in braille.

Blueprints in braille? Okey dokey. That could work.
I am not a real Milton fan, but he does have a way with words.

White man speak with forked tongue.

On her way to work one morning
Down the path along side the lake
A tender hearted woman saw a poor half frozen snake
His pretty colored skin had been all frosted with the dew
"Oh well," she cried, "I'll take you in and I'll take care of you"
"Take me in oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman," sighed the snake

She wrapped him up all cozy in a curvature of silk
And then laid him by the fireside with some honey and some milk
Now she hurried home from workthat night as soon as she arrived
She found that pretty snake she'd taking in had been revived
"Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman," sighed the snake

Now she clutched him to her bosom, "You're so beautiful," she cried
"But if I hadn't brought you in by now you might have died"
Now she stroked his pretty skin and then she kissed and held him tight
But instead of saying thanks, that snake gave her a vicious bite
"Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman," sighed the snake

"I saved you," cried that woman
"And you've bit me even, why?
You know your bite is poisonous and now I'm going to die"
"Oh shut up, silly woman," said the reptile with a grin
"You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in
"Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in oh tender woman," sighed the snake

One more, from a documentary film that was available for a short time on videotape, I think, tho I never knew about it until it was long out of print, about Stan Rogers, the great Canadian folksinger, who died well before his time trying to rescue fellow passengers from a burning plane on the tarmac--an anthem yo perseverance and possibilities
