@djjd62,
Thanks for the memory jog, dj, and Woman in the Wall told a sad story. Great one by The Beautiful South.

How about "the oldest English epic"

Beowulf:

and, should anyone care to job their memory.

A summary

@Letty,
Rousing music, letty. Beowulf ought to have engaged the beast thusly - Perhaps he might have lived.

Another legend:

St. George and the Dragon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQLjrZA8va8&feature=related

lyrics:

Can you tell me where I might find the Hydra
Is he wearing a familiar face
Does he still live below Seventh Avenue
With the princess dipped in lace

Does he know that I'm a soldier of fortune
And not a victim of circumstance
We drew lots for his soft underbelly
Now his fate is sealed with my lance

I can tell by the look in your eye
You've never seen the man with nothing to say
I can tell by the look in your eye
You'd better watch yourself
St. George is on his way

Is it true that he's a mighty warrior
And a viper of the first degree
I've been sentenced here to slay the giant
Geld this fear I cannot see

Can you tell me where I might find the Hydra
Is he wearing a familiar face
Does he still live below Seventh Avenue
In the slums of Satan's grace

I can tell by the look in your eye
You've never seen the man with nothing to say
I can tell by the look in your eye
You'd better watch yourself
St. George is on his way.

Thanks for the information about St George. Toto sings about it well, but I couldn't understand them. Lucky you provided lyrics.

A sad song about AIDS
She Thinks His Name Is John

She can account for all of the men in her past
Where they are now, who they married, how many kids they have
She knew their backgrounds, family and friends
A few she even talks to now and then

But there is one she can't put her fingers on
There is one who never leaves her thoughts
And she thinks his name was John

A chance meeting, a party a few years back
Broad shoulders and blue eyes, his hair was so black
He was a friend of friend you could say
She let his smile just sweep her away
And in her heart she knew that it was wrong
But too much wine and she left his bed at dawn
And she thinks his name was John

Now each day is one day that's left in her life
She won't know love, have a marriage or sing lullabies
She lays all alone and cries herself to sleep
'Cause she let a stranger kill her hopes and her dreams

And all her friends say what a pity what a loss
And in the end when she was barely hangin' on
All she could say is she thinks his name was John
She thinks his name was John

A great story that might have very ancient roots in the Celtic god Gobniu and, as one of the respondents wrote, the best outro in folk music.

@edgarblythe,
Ah, edgar. "...I met a girl who sang the blues and I asked her for some happy news, but she just smiled and walked away...

Thanks to Buffy for that song.

Odd, The Navy Seals and others have always cried about this man when attacking.
