@Letty,
I missed the news about that poor dog. Elvis's Old Shep has long been a favorite with me. Somebody like Eddy Arnold or Red Foley did a version I listened to as a boy.

@edgarblythe,
Yes, We all love Christy, he's a great fellow, still gigs.
Our country might be on it's knees but we're still lucky to have great talent at home. I can go see Christy most weeks and more like him. Helps lift your spirits.

Here's another new band for you. The Fureys. Enjoy.

@eurocelticyankee,
eurocelticyankee, Welcome to A2K. Love The Green Fields of France. That's a WWI song. Tell us something about yourself, buddy.

Here's Vera Lynn doing the same, with both WWI and WWII

This is a song about a fire and firejumpers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qomNoN7MCYg

Unfortunately, I think Jim's guitar is out of tune.

A multi-cultural, update of a traditional (?) song from The Imagined Village:

"The Green Fields of France" (original title "No Man's Land") is by the Scottish-expat, now-Australian singer-songwriter Eric Bogle. There are a lot of videos of other people covering the song, all of them moving. Eric wrote a sort of followup to it in 1990, the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Gallipolli. Australia found the surviving veterarns of the battle, I think around 90, and sent them to Turkey for the anniversary (along, allegedly, with a number of coffins, because they thought some of the 95-or-so-year old vets were likely to die on the trip). Eric wrote this song from the viewpoint of a survivor, looking at the grave of his mate who died in the battle, wondering why he survived, and what had happened to the world since then, and thanking his mate for "The Gift of Years"

I don't know who that is singing it. It's not "wee small Eric" as he sometimes calls himself.

@Letty,
Thank you for the warm welcome, dear Letty.
You seem like a nice lady so I wont bore you with details of myself.
That would be cruel.

@MontereyJack,
Thanks, MontereyJack for the info on Eric and for the video.I know about "...and the band played Waltzing Matilda..." listening to it right now.

Been trying to find out if there is such a person as My Darling Clementine ever since I bought these miniature fruits.

funny song about them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P96Jmdyb-Pg&feature=related

Traditional lyrics:

In a cavern
in a canyon
excavating for a mine

dwelt a miner
fortyniner
and his daugher
Clementine

OH MY DARLING OH MY DARLING
OH MY DARLING CLEMENTINE
THOU ART LOST AND GONE FOREVER
DREADFUL SORRY CLEMENTINE!!!

Light she was and like a fairy
and her shoes were number nine
Hering boxes without topses
sandals were for Clementine

Drove she duckling to the water
Every morning just at nine
Stumped her foot against a splinter
Fell into the foaming brine.

Alas for me I was no swimmer
So I lost my Clementime, etc

@plainoldme,
"Unfortunately, I think Jim's guitar is out of tune."

That's okay. I don't know a thing about music anyway.

@Letty,
I am a life-long fan of Pete Seger (first knew of him with The Weavers). Darling Clementine is also a life-long favorite.

@edgarblythe,
To me Fractals just confirm mathematics is the language of the universe.

And Ennio Morricone is the Maestro.
