I did not get a chance, earlier, to say Gentle Arms of Eden is a fine song.

Tom Joad is based on the movie, not the book. So I read. And since it ends even earlier on than the movie, that adds weight to the thought. People who have relied on Hollywood for that story are unaware of the tragic end chapter or two.

Woody looks like Sean Penn in that photo.

Has anyone posted The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down? Who cares!! The song is always a great listen.

Night They Drove Old Dixie Down is one of the great songs, in my book.

I would love to post a link to this song, but the song is fairly new and the young singer-songwriter is just 27 although she has won at Kerrville.

Raina Rose can be heard in the mix on WUMB which streams live. They often play her song, "What Do You Bury?"

What Do You Bury will draw you in immediately with its line about "being married in our parents' shoes" and will tear out your heart with the conclusion about not wanting to be buried next to a man she does not love.

If Raina Rose appears near you, go see her. She does tour nationally and I think this is an up and coming writer who will leave her mark.

Hey, I have another great song that tells a very short story that many women identified with. The song is called, "Twenty Mile Zone," and it's by Dorrie Previn (who at least for a time lived in Medford, MA, that hotbed of American songwriting). Previn became a feminist icon because of this song about frustration and release.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote the poem, but George Harrison sings a different version of it.
