96 Tears
? and The Mysterians

Too many teardrops for one heart to be cryin'
Too many teardrops for one heart to carry on
You're way on top now
Since you left me
You're always laughin'
Way down at me
But watch out now
I'm gonna get there
We'll be together
For just a little while
And then I'm gonna put you
Way down here
And you'll start cryin'
Ninety-six tears
Cry
Cry

And when the sun comes up
I'll be on top
You'll be way down there
Lookin' up
And I might wave
Come up here
But I don't see you
Wavin' now
I'm way down here
Wonderin' how
I'm gonna get you
But I know now
I'll just cry, cry, I'll just cry

Too many teardrops for one heart to be cryin'
Too many teardrops for one heart
To carry on
You're gonna cry ninety-six tears
You're gonna cry ninety-six tears
You're gonna cry cry, cry, cry, now
You're gonna cry cry, cry, cry
Ninety-six tears c'mon and lemme hear you cry, now
Ninety-six tears (whoo!) I wanna hear you cry
Night and day, yeah, all night long
Uh-ninety-six tears cry cry cry
C'mon baby, let me hear you cry now, all night long
Uh-ninety-six tears! Yeah! C'mon now
Uh-ninety-six tears!

'Tis a great old cryin'-in-yer-beer song, 'tis...Me father's name was Daniel, and Irish he was...(sniff)

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.

But come you back when summer's in the meadow
Or all the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

But when you come, when all the flowers are dying
If I am dead, as dead I well may be
Then if you bend and tell me that you love me
I'll sleep in peace until you come to me

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or all the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

Oh, my papa, to me he was so wonderful
Oh, my papa, to me he was so good
No one could be, so gentle and so lovable
Oh, my papa, he always understood.

Gone are the days when he could take me on his knee
And with a smile he'd change my tears to laughter

Oh, my papa, so funny, so adorable
Always the clown so funny in his way
Oh, my papa, to me he was so wonderful
Deep in my heart I miss him so today.

I've got to admit, picking just one Cowboy Junkies song is hard. The entire Lay It Down album can plunge you into the blues for a solid week.

COME CALLING
(Cowboy Junkies)

The stillness here,
like what he sometimes finds inside her,
hits so hard it can steal your breath forever
He sometimes wonders
is the sum of their lives together
him on the floor and her lost to a mind in tatters

These days he's drinking for the pleasure of falling
and he's falling for the pleasure of pretending
that she's sitting by the window waiting
for him to come calling

If I could fix me up a week of twilight hours
we'd sit on the point
and watch the sun continually flounder
Bathed in gold we'd plug into some kind of power
and connect with those days
back before all of this went sour

'Cause I'm drinking for the pleasure of falling
and I'm falling for the pleasure of pretending
that you're sitting by the window waiting
for me to come calling

Odd how the darkness always makes us whisper
and with the last of the sun
you can feel the approach of the winter
Now is the time of each day
that I desperately miss her
I suppose I will learn how to live my life without her

So you're drinking for the pleasure of falling
and you're falling for the pleasure of pretending
that I'm sitting by the window waiting
for you to come calling

Think of me,
think of me fondly,
when we've said
goodbye.

Remember me
once in a while -
please promise me
you'll try.

When you find
that, once again,
you long to talk your heart back and be free -
if you ever find a moment
spare a thought for me...

We never said
our love was evergreen,
or as unchanging as the sea -
but if you can still remember,
stop and think of me...

Think of all the things
we've shared and seen -
don't think about the things
which might have been...

Think of me,
think of me waking,
silent and resigned.

Imagine me,
trying to hard
to put you from my mind.

Recall those days,
look back on all those times,
think of those things we'll never do -
there will never be a day,
when I won't think of you....

My young love said to me
My mother won't mind
And me father won't slight you
For your lack of kind
Then she stepped away from me
And this she did say
It will not be long, love
Till our wedding day.

She stepped away from me
And she moved through the Fair
And fondly I watched her
Move here and move there
She went her way homeward
With one star awake
As the swans in the evening
Move over the lake.

The people were saying
No two e'er were wed
But one has a sorrow
That never was said
And she smiled as she passed me
With her goods and her gear
And that was the last
That I saw of my dear.

I dreamed it last night
That my true love came in
So softly she entered
Her feet made no din
She came close beside me
And this she did say
It will not be long, love
Till our wedding day.

I Still Miss Someone - J. Cash

At my door the leaves are falling
The cold wild wind will come
Sweethearts walk by together
And I still miss someone

I go out to wild the parties
And look for a little fun
But I find the darkened corner
'Cause I still miss someone

Though I never got over those blue eyes
I see them everywhere
I miss those arms that held me
When all the love was there

I wonder if she's sorry for
For leaving what we had begun
There's someone for me somewhere
And I still miss someone

...one more and I'm done...

By the storm-torn shoreline, a woman is standing,
the spray strung like jewels in her hair.
And the sea tore the rocks near that desolate landing,
as though it had known she stood there.

CHORUS:
For she has come down to condemn that wild ocean,
for the murderous loss of her man.
His boat sailed out on Wednesday morning,
and it's feared she's gone down with all hands.

Oh and white were the wave caps, and wild was their parting,
so fierce is the warring of love.
But she prayed to the gods, both of men and of sailors,
not to cast their cruel nets o'er her love.

CHORUS

There's a school on the hill where the sons of dead fathers,
are led toward tempests and gales.
Where their God-given wings are clipped close to their bodies,
and their eyes are bound round with ship's sails.

CHORUS

What force leads a man to a life filled with danger,
high on seas or a mile underground?
It's when need is his master, and poverty's no stranger,
And there's no other work to be found.

CHORUS

Don't worry bout me
It's all over now
Though I may be blue
I'll manage somehow
Love can't be explained
Can't be controled
One day it's warm
Next day it's cold
Don't pity me cause i'm feeling blue
Don't be ashamed
It might have been you
O-o-oh love
Kiss me one time love
I understand
Don't worry bout me

When one heart tells one heart
One heart good-bye
One heart is free
One heart will cry
O-o-oh sweet sweet baby sweet
Baby sweet
It's all right
Don't worry bout me

Everybody tells me love is blind
Maybe so cause I refuse to see
Everybody tells me things you do
But I don't care cause I'm a fool for you
It doesn't really matter what you are
It only matters what you are to me
Maybe I'm not wise enough to see
But where would love be without
Fools like me

Maybe loving you is not so smart
Cause maybe in the end you'll break my heart
I really shouldn't love you but I do
And I can't stop cause I'm a fool for you
I only hope this kind of love is real
Cause I can't ever change the way I feel
Maybe baby I'm not wise enough to see
But where would love be without
Fools like me

Send Me Some Loving by R Penniman (Little Richard)

Send me some loving
Send Send it by freight
How can I love you
when you're far away
Send me your picture
Send it my dear
So I can hold it
Pretend you are here
Can you send me your kisses
I still feel their touch
I need you so badly
I miss you so much
My days are so lonely
My nights are so blue
I'm here and I'm lonely
I'm waiting for you

Wish You Were Here

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blueskies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground. What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.
