Star Trek 'Maize' Breaks Records

A Star Trek-themed corn maze in Yorkshire is breaking records for the tourist attraction.

ClickPress reported that the York Maze, which has been redesigned this summer in honour of the 40th anniversary of Star Trek, used pioneering GPS technology to plot the design of the 32-acre field of maize, the largest in the world.

"I have been thinking about a space themed maze for some time," said designer Tom Pearcy. "I am a big fan of Star Trek, and the 40th anniversary gave me the inspiration to use some instantly recognisable images in the design."

Satellite technology like that used in car navigation systems was used to mark the paths through the maze, though the imagery won't be apparent until the 1.5 million plants have grown around the paths; they are expected to reach 3 metres within ten weeks. The attraction will open on July 15th.

"York Maze is a bit like the universe...vast, mysterious and a challenge to conquer!" said Pearcy. Previous years' designs included a Viking ship, a spiderweb and Big Ben.

It costs £5.50 for adults to traverse the maze, less for children. More information is available at the York Maze web site.

I love the Borg ship in the background...That's nifty! Cap'n Picard's bald head doesn't give you very much chance to get lost, however!
