Do most of the people in your country like Beckett's play? What kind of play do you like best? Do you think Beckett's plays are very difficult to understand ?Thank you very much!
chess girl, since Beckett wrote many plays, your question should ask, "Do most of the people in your country like Beckett's plays?" My country is America, and most Americans don't like his plays because they have never read or seen his plays, but I have read one, Waiting for Godot, and I liked it. I like many types of plays besides Beckett's. For example, I like tragedies, such as Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, and Hamlet, MacBeth, and Othello by Shakespeare.
Chessgirl--
Beckett's plays are not "popular" culture. They are usually performed by acting troups from colleges and universities rather than as commercial theatre ventures.
I'd guess that most Americans have never heard of Samuel Beckett, but this does not make his work less valuable.
