There is a sentence :The only difference is that a bank's goods happen to be money, which is yours in the first place .if banks were required to sell wallets and money belts, they might act less like churcheres.what's the meaning of this sentence ?can you help me ?thank you very much!

Can you give us the sentence that comes before these sentences? It looks these are comparing banks to something, but we need to know what that is before we can explain these sentences fully.
