the newfies are really ahead of the rest of canada i'd say .
when the mainland is still asleep the newfies are up-and-about .
remember . they can always decide to join the united states ; with all the oil and gas reserves they'd probably be given a warm welcome .
before joining canada , there was a very strong movement to join the united states , i understand .

yeah but they'd have to have you know a Meeting about it, and that means a place and a TIME so its not going to happen is it?

I recall from trips that India has the 1/2 hour thing too.

Also central australia, however as there is nothing there (except a few unwashed camels) we tend to ignore it.

We ignore all those in that trime zone - 'tis only sensible!

In this regard a PTZ* is very useful. I use mine quite often. If people are there before you its because they are early. If you are there first they are late. It works every time. My only difficulty was trying to sue an airline for early departure of my plane.

Bear's Granfather was a Newfie.. a sea captain who owned his own fishing boats. According to Bear he was missing parts of two fingers where fishing line had popped them off at the joint, walked with a limp and probably was the person the Quint character in Jaws was based on.... that explains a lot. to learn about newfies , try to get a copy of "ned'n'me" by mike murphy .
'me' is a st. john's barkeep and the book gives great descriptions of :
the barking kettle bar , exorcism , 'arf and 'arf , and other important events taking place in st. john's .
i bought the book for a dollar some years ago at a goodwill store , sure has given me at least two dollars worth of laughs .

But the habitat for humanity stores often have the best stuff.

By the way, hamburger, the Carolina Hurricanes are blowing up a storm. Looks like our lads may beat out your lads. There are alot of connections between Edmunton and Raleigh, NC.

Man Moon Newfie

You might think its goofie, but the man in the moon is a Newfie
And he's sailin on to glory, away in the golden dory....x2

Codfish Dan from Newfoundland he dreamt that he had tree wishes
And he took mars and all the stars and he turned them into big fishes
He said the sky was much too dry and he made a wavy motion
And the moon like a boat began to float upon the starry ocean
Chorus:
And you might think its goofy...

One night he strayed to the milky way to cast his nets upon it
He spied the tail of a great big whale and he harpooned Haleys comet
He never had a pot for the fish that he caught so he had to use the big dipper
And the sun by jove was a very good stove for cookin up smelts and kippers
Chorus:
Now the northern lights that seem so bright like nothin could be grander
Well they're just waves that the moon-boat made by the Newfoundland Commander!
And don't you sigh and say oh my "What gross exagerration!"
Cause he'll tell you the dream was true when Codfish Dan awakens
Chorus:
And you might think its goofy but the man in the moon is a Newfie....

Happy Canada Day, eh.

that's how "canada day" is being celebrated in newfoundland (and labrador) :
accordion and fiddle and a few bottles of "screech" !

Yeh, were plannin to go up to da bridge (eeeeph) dere in ST STephen and shake hands wit all you Canajuns what wanna come over and (eeeph) celebrate by shoppin at da Walmart in Calais. Wed be da ones askin fer any left over Maple slavered donuts.

Technically, today is part of a weekend and a Monday orgy of clebration and debuahery as initially penned by Lord Monck.
"Since , and whenever "Dominion Day" falls thence and theron a Saturday, We may be assured that nothing further shall deprive our citizens and citizans from celebrating right until the following Monday, unless of course they do not wish to do so"
Of course all bets are off in Quebec where everybody was busy signing leases and moving their furniture in Ryder trucks.
