Man Attacks Rival Ice Cream Truck Owners
The hostility stemmed from disputed truck routes.
New York, NY -- Ice cream trucks are apparently big business in New York City, so much so that some people are willing to beat the living daylights out of competitors.
That's exactly what's landed Fernando Esparza behind bars for the next ten years. Esparza drew the sentence for attacking a couple who owned a rival ice cream truck.
According to police, he beat them with a wrench as the victims were returning to a depot with their granddaughter aboard the truck. The wife was hurt the worst. She spent more than a month hospitalized for skull fractures and internal bleeding.
Prosecutors say the couple and Esparza had been in an ongoing dispute over ice cream truck routes. Esparza pleaded guilty to assault.
