Man Eats 47 Cheese Sandwiches in 10 Min.

LAS VEGAS (AP) - There's a rising star on the competitive eating circuit. California man Joey Chestnut downed 47 grilled cheese sandwiches in ten minutes this weekend in Las Vegas to set a world record. That's eleven more sandwiches than the old record of 36.

Last month, Chestnut ate 50 hot dogs. Some say he's a threat to the reigning champ of food stuffing, Japan's Takeru Kobayashi.

Chestnut won the grilled cheese contest sponsored by the International Federation of Competitive Eating, the same group that runs the annual Fourth of July hot dog eating contest at New York's Coney Island.

I have made it a point to watch the Nathans 4th of July Hot Dog Eating Contest for the last 2 years, and I'm sure not going to miss this one.....

Takeru Kobyashi, from Japan, has won the last 4 years in a row, last year, he devoured 49 hot dogs in 12 minutes.... he weighs in at 144 pounds. Can't wait to see what he does this year.

his method of eating is to eat 2 hotdogs at a time, buns separately, washed down with his beverage.

Sonya Thomas, born in Korea, is my personal favorite. This 105 lb. cutie came in 2nd place with 37 hot dogs in 12 minutes. Her specialty is cheesecake, ELEVEN POUNDS in NINE MINUTES....Go Sonya!
She is incredibly focused, and will give Kobyashi (the Tsunami) a run for his money.

Joey Chestnut, came in third place last year with 32 dogs and buns.
I honestly don't know anything about him.

Competitive eating doesn't seem to relate to the persons size, real big obese guys are left in the dust by the 2 favorites over and over.

Whew! You got me looking forward to this now....

Hey, thanks for the link and all the info!

So what do you think this "competitive eating" does to your body? For one thing, we know they're not chewing their food 32 times with each mouthful.

Gotta to be a downside to this, at least down the road.

Bozo Miller was one of the greatest eaters of all time. He once consumed 56 pounds of chicken at one sitting. He was undefeated in eating contests from 1931 to 1991. He is now 96 and retired from eating.

Actually, he's still alive but complains that he can only eat a sandwich now.

Another eating record. Gotta be hard on the stomach.

Winner Eats 38 Hot Dogs in Contest at Mall of America

BLOOMINGTON, MN (AP) -- The winner of a hot dog eating contest at the Mall of America must've been pretty hungry.

Chip Simpson of Pittsburgh ate 38 hot dogs -- buns and all -- in 12 minutes. He won a trip to New York City in July to compete in the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island.

Simpson just competed in a man's body building competition a few weeks ago.

To prepare for Saturday's contest, he went for a run for about an hour, drank a protein shake and ate just a little bit.

here is the story of nathans ...NATHANS... .
their hotdogs - with sauerkraut , if you like - are great ! .
many years ago we went to new york every few tears - haven't been there for some years now .
breakfast at nathans - a hotdog with kraut - was a good way to start the day .
since there were always several of 'new york's finest' having their breakfast , one always felt quite safe .
