Old lullaby need lyrics??

Reply Sat 10 Jun, 2006 12:08 am
My grandmother used to sing a lullaby to my mom and her sibling but none of them can remember the lyrics and grandma's light has dimmed on this subject it has been over 60 years since she sang it. The lyrics that my mom vaguely remembers is

.... the dream man is coming on a train of stars with moon beam windows...

I know not a lot to go by but that is all I have. Can anyone help with a title and maybe the rest of the lyrics. I would really like to find this lullaby for my children and my future grandchildren.

Hmm, I can't find any listings in Google for anything with the phrase moon beam windows or moonbeam windows. Are you certain that you're recalling it correctly?

PS Welcome to A2K!

Did you see this site?
This was the closest I could find. Someone had at least a few verses.

@jespah,
I think it's from The Land of Nod - Lucy M. Blinn
cannot find the lullaby though

Sat side by side in the phantom cars
With moonbeam windows and wheels of stars
On and on they sped through the silver sand
of the beautiful streets of the Wonderland ...

look here: http://books.google.com/books?id=mXsCAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA75&lpg=PA75&dq=the+dream+man+is+coming+on+a+train+of+stars+with+moon+beam+windows&source=web&ots=qZmGvhzO08&sig=V9uixa8Vq81v3Hc-z-Li2VubkjE&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=3&ct=result#PPA73,M1

@LeilaJoy,
Hi LeilaJoy,

this is as I remember it from a former Anglican, who became a catholic and later a mother who came from Madras India, eventually great grandmotherwith fifty plus descendants....

The dream man is coming with his train of cars,
with moonbeam windows and with wheels of stars,
so hush my little ones and climb in here,
the man in the moon is the engineer,
hush for mister dream man,
hush for mister dream man,
till daylight comes again,
well see all the wonders of wonderland,
in the dream mans train.

@LeilaJoy,
I think that's a song called Strawberry Moon by Neptune's Car. I looked up the lyrics in Google and that's a line in the chorus. Except it's 'train of cars' instead of 'train of stars'. It goes:
"So, rock-a-bye now don't you cry.
I'm gonna sing you a lullaby.
The Dream Man's coming in his train of cars
With moonbeam windows and with wheels of stars.
So, hush you little ones and have no fear.
The man-in-the-moon is the engineer.
The railroad track is a moonbeam bright
That leads right up into the starry night."

@LeilaJoy,
Hi, My grandmother used to sing it to me as well and I was just looking for it. It goes:- The dream man's coming with a train of cars with moonbeam windows and the wheels of stars. Hush my little ones and have no fear the man in the moon is the engineer. So fly with Mr Dream man till daylight comes once more, see all the wonders of wonderland in the dream mans store. The tune should just come back. Enjoy and pass on the the grand children. I have.
