oh come on....lighten up.

every night all these different usernames are all asking the same thing.

don't you think they would catch on to read each others posts?

I mean, if they have the brains to be able to register, surely they can see when they click new posts that the same question is repeated over and over.

I'm thinking if this is for real they have to prove to a teacher that they actually made a post or something.

and they never venture beyond and try a post in a "regular" thread?

Very uncurious bunch, if that's the case.

Funny, how every time someone mentions bunnies Diowan rears her two furry little ears. Hmmm... Smile

BTW Roger, an interesting approach... But won't that just leave me in the company of many horny bitches? Doggies of course, not humans.

Seriously though, it is a free forum, and the people who ask questions are usually quite polite. Perhaps they don't ask the most coherent questions, but still. Not only that, but I for one am quite curious how Chinese people in China self deal with their up and coming economic vigor.

Remember, these kids aren't just dealing with a new language--they're working with a brand-new alphabet, too. Probably this is early in the university term and they have only vague ideas of what the instructor wants from them or how they will be graded.

They are also teenagers. At least so far none of them want to lose weight or break into show business or object to porn.

I'm glad I'm not young anymore.

Seriously though, if all these student need information, how could they avoid noticing they are the umpteenth person asking the same question?

Also, none of them interact with each other....It doesn't matter what country they are from, if a group of people are all posting the same question at the same time, they would be reading each others answers and commenting on it.

Again, they figured out how to register, how to post, how to respond to one of "us" when we answer, but don't jump in and join the conversation another student has started.

To me, that makes the whole thing a little "off", and quite funny.

hmmm.....I notice no one (including me) has ever asked one of the students why they are either (a) not getting together with their fellow students on line here, which would be the most natural thing, and (b) why they are not at least reading the answers to other students posts.

c'mon......think about it.

Maybe they are used to seeing flippant answers on A2K and want several different opinions on several different threads so they can pull out the facts from the poop.

and....why aren't they conferring with each other?

how do they know what answers are flippant and which are not?

why do they show no interest in ANY other thread on another subject?

you're finding needles in haystacks....look at the big picture.

sheesh.

So many questions. What do you think this is, an answer board? I am going out right now to find a big picture.

Rather easily, via Google. They Google something (we're the first result for "difference between western and eastern breakfast", the first phrase I thought of trying), see that this looks like the kind of place to ask what they want to ask (based on the one post that was a result of the Google search), and when they try to ask their own question, they need to register. They do so, they ask. <shrug>

In that scenario, all they see is the result of their Google search and their own question, two topics total.

Or it could be that actually asking the question and posting the url into their assignment is part of the assignment, or any number of things.

(I will say that I'm feeling more charitable now that they've slowed down a bit -- when they took up two pages of "new posts" I was rather grumpy.)

We're not the only forum discussing eastern and western breakfasts.

It's big at englishclub.com right now, while the BBC learning english forum is having its own kind of fun

bbc learning english message boards

Lots of people learning English.

Good stuff.

Well I for one thing I am doing them an even better service by giving them crap for answers. What a better way to learn about life than showing them they can't believe everything the read.

I'm with ya girl...

It's not like we're dealing with these fragile little flowers whose minds will be shattered if they think westerners eat pimento loaf for breakfast.

If anything, it'll teach them about our sense of humor.

Hey, I think asking questions and giving answers is way cool. when a question is asked I attempt to answer if I can understand the question.

Sometimes it's a stab in the dark and I'll ask for more detail, if they can formulate a really simple example of what they mean, how the hell can I expect them to understand the answer.

Oh, by the way, I really do think it's so cute when they say something totally staight, and then put all these smilies after it.

what is meaning of coffe drink? Laughing

It's like hey! I want to show you how polite I am, and that can best be expressed by giggling Laughing

It's charming.

Sozobe, with that rather millitant looking biceps bulging woman (Rosie something right, World war II?) as my only guide in forming a mental picture about you, I'd rather not bump into you when you are grumpy.

All in all, I see a major shift occuring in worldwide interests. Without the availability of that most interesting Cold War period, which has ended, a new interest had to be found. Lucky enough, the Middle Eastern problematics reared their ugly heads once more, but all in all, you know, religious fanaticism does get boring after a while.
So here I see the new focal point. Breakfast! Just imagine what a beautiful world we could have if people worried less about outshooting their neighbor and more about outbreakfasting their neighbour.

The golden years are coming....

And who says I'm too cynical and pessimistic?

Naj.
